We were at the Navy BX yesterday and saw that a Christmas Tree was already on display. As I looked at the tree I noticed the flag flying at half mast for our fallen soldiers of Fort Hood, Texas.
We owe such a debt to the men and women who serve our countries. They bravely put themselves in harm's way knowing that they may have to give the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us. When we're at Tripler Army Hospital or the Illinois Great Lakes Hospital, all the men and women are so polite, kind and utterly respectful saying, "Yes, ma'am" or "May I help you, sir?" They hold themselves with pride and determination to do their best.
To all our servicemen and veterans I would just like to say, Thank You.

We should also thank those who assisted those in the service. Men like Art, for instance, who worked in an office of the Air Force. Even though he was not a jet pilot, he more than served his country, as well.
Gigi: Actually, Art was in the service. He was an Air Force officer working with defense spy satellites during the cold war. In fact, when we were dating he could not tell me what he did. He never did, until a book came out that revealed their military operation. Thank you for thinking of him, Gigi.
We do owe so much to all of our men and women in the service who have served our country throughout its history.

I also stand in honoring our service men and women. They put themselves in harm's way so that I can be safe and enjoy a relatively carefree lifestyle.
How heartbreaking to see the half-mast flag beside a Christmas tree, and to think of all the families who will celebrate this Christmas without Daddy, or with one fewer son, or having lost a grandson, cousin, nephew or friend.
Gratitude indeed; there could never be enough.
Meanwhile, how COOL IS ART??! Wow!
Kay, thanks for the heads up on Art's service. That explains why he was so vague when David asked him what he did in the air force. I thought he said it was a desk job. But it was more than that!
They stopped our exercise class today for 2 minutes at 11am to show respect. It was very moving.
Is there anything Art can't do?
a fitting memorial to a special day...
Nicely done Kay. To all the men and women who have or are defending our country, thank you and God Bless. And Susan at Stony River had a comment that touched my heart, about the Christmas tree.
We do owe a lot to our service people that are in harms way so we can be safe here at home. It always makes me so sad when on the newa they broadcast a fallen soldier, God bless them all.
Hi Kay. The families are never the same. Especially during the holiday season. God help them all.
Good post, Kay. It's a good day to express gratitude for those who serve our country in the military.
Happy Veterans Day Kay !one good thing about arriving late here today is that i got to know something very interesting and important about Art and you in your comment section.
A salute to all those you gave their present to save our future !
Here in the UK we call it Remembrance Day. This year saw the deaths of the last three surviving WWI veterans living here. Such brave men, and many more of them in Aghanistan and Iraq at the moment.
how nice..
Wow, I'm impressed, spy satellites!
Lovely post for Veteran's Day..I just wish we took better care of our soldiers when they came home..
