For $1.50 we get a rather large hot dog and a drink at Costco. My other weakness is the soft serve swirl for $1.35. Yes, yes! I know. I know. But I don't get the swirl all the time. Art usually distracts me so that I'll forget to buy it.
Now then, here's something Art taught me that I had no idea about. His family owned and operated a small restaurant/soda fountain on the Big Island so he knows a lot more than I do about food establishments.

Art assumed I knew those little tabs at the self service soda fountain will give you water or soda (carbonated water). I had no idea. Now that was a lot of fun to discover. I am truly trying to limit my sugar intake because I am pre-diabetic. I usually have the diet Coke. I discovered that I can now have a dash of Fanta or raspberry iced tea in some soda water. I could also just have some Sprite with more soda water. Fun! I'll have to experiment with this next week.
Remember... don't tell Master Pong. He did tell us that we must eat healthy. I'm trying. I'm trying. Now that I know about that soda tab, I can be a little healthier...sort of... kind of...
Christopher loves to have a hot dog, but I can't eat them because neither the sausage or bun are gluten free. But I love the smell. Neither of us care for fizzy drinks though, so those won't tempt us.
ReplyDeleteA little of what you fancy does you good ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhenever I get together with my friends and we end up near one of these, I am always looking for that water button but didn't realize you could get soda. Thanks Kay! I agree with jabblog, a little of what you fancy does you good :)
ReplyDeleteI often use the "water" tab, but I always assumed that if I didn't pay for soda, I shouldn't fill my glass with carbonated water. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteI would gladly join you two on hot dog day.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little we could get a chocolate phosphate at the drug store fountain/counter. Does Art or any reader-friend remember that? So now I sometimes buy a bottle of soda water and mix it with a tiny bit of chocolate liqueur. Yum.
I usually get soda water and add a little lemonade.....just to make myself feel like I'm doing something good for me :) I'd really rather have the Coke.
ReplyDeletei love hot dogs and diet dr. pepper, it doesn't hurt now and then to treat yourself...lol!
ReplyDeletehaha...we love the hot dogs too!
ReplyDeleteWe did discover the water spout a few months back, as we had asked for a glass of water for the grandbaby (no pop for him), but I didn't know about the soda water...that's great, as my only choice was the diet coke as well.
Have a great week
Niki
Kay, sometimes you just have to be "bad"-LOL!!! I didn't know that about the water and soda-thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI don't find hot dog unhealthy. When I lived in NYC (Manhattan! Did I tell you?), I loved eating hot dog and bacon salad on the street! It was once a week but that was my fun time!
ReplyDeleteI could learn new thing about soda fountain! Thanks.
Yoshi
I love hot dogs and I think it does us good to eat wickedly once in a while!! Hope you have a fun week, Kay!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
I LOVE HOT DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe always get the Caesar salad and plain water.
ReplyDeleteWhich doesn't keep me from being pre-diabetic anyway!
I know about the water tab, but not the soda water. Is it free?
ReplyDeleteWe eat hog dogs when we go to the stadium for soccer matches.
Linda: Since it's a self service soda fountain, you can choose anything you want including the soda or water tab. The refills are free, too. I don't know about other self service places like Burger King or McDonalds or Jack-in-the-Box. I'm not sure all the self service fountains have the same tabs. However, I'll be keeping my eyes open now.
ReplyDeleteOoooh but those hotdogs are sooooo goood!
ReplyDeleteOh Costco's hot dogs and pizza is so deadly. I didn't know about the soda button but did about the water button. Yes, healthy is better....she says serving a high fat dinner tonight.
ReplyDeletegood tip, Kay, I had no idea. I love the hot dogs (and sausages too), but try to just get a Starbucks latte or something when I'm there.
ReplyDeleteI'm not pre-diabetic; I'm full-blown diabetic, but I still enjoy my Sonic coke. Some things you just can't give up.
ReplyDeleteI think you have to let yourself have some "good" stuff once in a while. What else is there, right? :)
ReplyDeleteI already knew about the water tab but didn't know about the soda tab. Btw, the ice reservoir isn't always sanitized on as regular a basis as it should be, but it's still okay as long as you don't chew on the ice. For some reason, the part of the ice that melts in the soda, that doesn't seem to trigger unhealthy symptoms.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in the UK we had a Costco in town and I used to get the cheapo Hot Dog too lol, so no blame here!
ReplyDeleteI knew about the water, but not the soda, so thank you!
At our Costco the hotdog is the same price. I don't like the hotdog, I always get the chicken bake! For a drink I get the rasberry tea. Costco is the only time I like "fake" tea. What was Master Pong's # again? :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the soda tab. I guess we all learned something. Wow. I can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteOnce a week won't hurt you, as long as you're sensible. Everything in moderation means we are less likely to binge.
ReplyDeleteBut Kay....the soft serve there is fat free!!! Let's go have another. Master Pong will never know.
ReplyDeleteI understand the Blizzard of the Month at Dairy Queen is a real humdinger!
I'm a soda water fan myself. Just water (no sugar) with bubbles in it.
ReplyDeleteThe drink should cost nothing (service/drinking glass may cost). It is just water with VERY LITTLE carbon pumped into it.
The other drinks are all bags-in-boxes with carbon pumped into them. THEY have a cost (Coca-Cola wholesales the bag-in-box here for $21 per litre) But plain soda-water? Cost-free.
This style, indeed the concept, of dispenser head was something I had not seen until I was in my late 20's. (They may have existed, but until that age I'd never been near a town where the population could be measured in the thousands)
