We saw this Los Angeles Times article by Michael Muskal titled Poll puts Trump No. 2 among 2012 GOP field in this morning's paper.
"Donald Trump, the man none of the pundits took seriously as a presidential candidate, shares second place in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
Trump is tied at 17 percent with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and just behind ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 21 percent among Republican primary voters, according to the poll, published yesterday."
Are you kidding? I mean really.
What's he going to do if he doesn't like a dictator? Fire him? He's also been constantly harping on President Obama's birth certificate. Didn't he have to declare a business bankruptcy? Doesn't he have an ego as big as Alaska?
OK... the Republicans have Sarah Palin and they've got the Donald. Yes, they've also got Huckabee and Romney who are probably happy about Trump because he might be making them look good.
This is all making me quite nervous.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Mr. Trump will be the Third mogul in the recent past to have a crack at the top job.
ReplyDeleteMr. Perot had a debating style like no other, shame he didn't make it further.
Mr. Forbes did not project sufficient charisma to attract votes.
All other attributes aside, Mr. Trump will find he lacks the gravitas to be voted his party's candidate.
Mr. Trump, if the citizenry can overlook the hedgehog style hairdo and actually vote him in, may have some difficulty adjusting to the unpleasant compromises that are a part of the cut & thrust of politics.
I tend to look at The Donald and Sarah as scary jokes. The scary part is that some people actually will vote for them. Neither have the tools to run a country.
ReplyDeleteSome of what he says makes sense - like putting America first. But he's like a Ross Perot on steroids and I doubt Congress would give him the time of day (if they are working, should be get in office).
ReplyDeleteFrankly, Kay, I wonder sometimes about the wisdom of anybody running for office. They might start out with good intentions (not something I attribute to Trump) but soon they become distressingly similar...
ReplyDeleteI agree, most of the time politics is for the birds...
ReplyDeleteSince the job of president is so stressful, it seems Trump is willing to lose his hair. If I ignore all the other acts in the Palin circus, I don't like the fact that she quit her job in Alaska. I'm sticking with mostly, hopefully, sensible Democrats.
ReplyDeleteNo salary and no life-time pension might bring some patriotic, sincere candidates to the offices and Congress. DrumMajor
I think the only way to keep politicians in line is to limit terms, cut back on all the extra, expensive benefits that this country pays for. It's not the country that most of them are concerned with, it's themselves, their ego, and power and it's disgusting. Sorry, don't get off on this subject very often, but yes, this is all making me quite nervous as well -- and has for some time now. Nevertheless, I hope you and Art and your Mom have a great weekend, Kay!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Donald Trump as a politician?? Barking mad!
ReplyDeleteTerm limits are looking better to me these days.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly live without Trump and would prefer to.
Hi Beautiful Kay,
ReplyDeleteJust dropped in to wish you well. May you have a blessed and happy day. I don't comment on politics.
Love and Peace

Kay, I too wish it were all a very bad April Fool's Day joke. Seriously, who can take him seriously? I loved your comment about Romney and Palin.
ReplyDeleteI would not worry about Trump, as 17% among Republican voters is still very low. It does not constitute a majority.
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for Obama, either. I guess you already know that from my blog.
show biz and politics seem to have a definite link. Hope he doesn't win.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Fox News, Trump pulled even with Romney. Beats me.
ReplyDeleteI've grown very tired of politics.
ReplyDeleteTrump is probably not going to go the distance. But I guess they said that about Obama when he announced his campaign.
Nancy Pelosi, Sarah Palin...don't scare me. I just want them to go far far away.
...and that's enough out of me! :)
Oh no, another billionaire running. I personally think you would have to have your head examined to want to run this country, because it is so screwed up. Thanks for coming by and leaving a very good comment.
ReplyDeleteNone of them fit the bill. Being from Arkansas, I have no love for our former governor, Huckabee, either. But, Trump? Really? I hate campaign seasons.
ReplyDeleteThe Donald loves attention. He's getting it. That's all he'll get.
ReplyDeleteMeg Whitman tried to buy the California governorship. It didn't work. She spent all that money and go no where. We can only hope, should he run, that the same thing would happen to Trump.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, because some people are stupid enough to vote for this man!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming by and for your very lovely comment...!
ReplyDelete"The Donald"...OY! He is an a**hole!!!! He is doing whatever he has to, to appeal to the worst in people---He really is all about "Don't Confuse Me With The Facts"....He scares me because I have very little faith now in anyone who voted Republican, given the way the Republicans in Congress just want to destroy Obama and/or hold him up so NOTHING gets done, plus it seems to me these people voted against their own self-interest, so they do not really know the truth about anything....As you said, Trump has an ego the size of Alaska and sounds really stupid going on and on about Obama's Birth Certificate. He is a Television Star now, (God Help Us) amd he is playing that for all it is worth...!
Donald Trump is more cartoon character than man. People can't be serious, can they?
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact that anybody is considering ANY republican at all after the last several years terrifies me!
That's a double ugh from here.
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump is an idiot. Any one who takes him seriously is dumber than he is.
ReplyDeleteOh please.
ReplyDeleteEveryone's looking in the wrong place for leaders of this country. When you put out a sign that reads, "ALL MEGALOMANICS APPLY WITHIN" then, usually, you'll get a megalomaniac. And you TRUST this guy to lead you? By definition he's conflicted and selfish.
First and foremost, a person who is chosen as a leader should not WANT to be in that office; it should be the office that will strip the incumbent of all power, wealth, and influence forevermore. That leaves only the altruists, the folks willing to do the right thing for its own sake, and unafraid of the price they will have to pay to do it. We have to start by removing the Capitalism out of the Democratic process, because right now the two are intertwined irrevocably and, worse, we are starting to bring in elements of bollywood. Ergo, insane anomalies like Palin.

I keep waiting for Palin to mimic one of my favorite characters, the venerable Kenpachi Zaraki, who once said, "Sanity??! I never once said I ever had any use for such a useless thing as that."
