Voila! A Patchwork Washer/Dryer Cover

Our washer and dryer were both individually covered to protect it from the rain and dirt since it sits outside on our covered patio. However, because we goofed buying a dryer that was too big, the washer and dryer are too close and cannot fit individual covers.

I had to take out the sides of both covers, add a six inch strip in the middle and sew them together to make one gigantic cover that would accomodate the larger width of the dryer.

The covers are a different color because the older one has been sun bleached longer. I added some rick rack so you would take your eyes away from the mix match patches.

We bought a can of Scotch Guard to make it water repellent.

So there you have it! All done!

  3. Voila--nice job and oh so quickly.
I really like the idea of it being outside. No noise, no extra heat in a house you are trying to keep cool, and communing with nature.
Of course since I'd never hear the beep, my clothes would probably remain in the dryer till I started running out of things to wear.

  14. Yup, you are a problem solver that never waits long to get things done. That's just one thing that I really admire about you.

The covers are very attractive. What kind of fabric did you use.

  15. Retired English Teacher: Thank you, Sally. You know what? I don't exactly remember what kind of fabric it is. It's very thick, sort of like denim, but stiffer. It's almost like canvas which makes it difficult to sew.

  16. Wow, that was fast! Like your decision to buy the dryer, and the camera before it.

Who are you and what have you done with the real Kay?

  17. Kay: It's scary, isn't it? This was an emergency though. If we didn't get it right away, my mother might be traumatized by not being able to do laundry every day. Just kidding. Sort of.
