Mothers Day With Near and Far

We had a lovely Mothers Day celebration with my brother, Dennis, sister-in-law, Nancy and our nephew, Barry.

They brought over a whole bunch of delicious Chinese food and we got more to add to our feast. We also added a green salad and some tofu and cucumber namasu (pickled cucumbers) that mom made. I also made a flan and jello with fruit. Barry brought over an amazing Mothers Day cake and Dennis and Nancy had a fruit bouquet delivered to us. It was such a fabulous surprise!

I have to confess I had two of those chocolate covered strawberries before I touched any of the other desserts. Barry's cake was fantastic. He said the chef who made it also baked the cake for the Emperor and Empress of Japan when they visited Hawaii a couple of years ago.

Ummm... all the other food was yummy too, by the way.

I sure do miss having my children nearby to celebrate this holiday. Tiffany and her family sent both mom and me a whole bunch of fun gifts. Mom has a sweet tooth, so Tif got her Trader Joes chocolate covered raspberry squares and some nice face cream. I received these Victoria Secret underwear. I was a little surprised to see this very shiny, sparkly, perky underwear. The picture doesn't do it justice.

"Guess who picked that one for you, mom." Tif laughed.

Hmmmm.... I guess it must have been my sparkly granddaughter. You know what? It's perfect for me to wear to my Zumba class. Just knowing I'm wearing it might give me more energy.

  1. What a fine day you had, Kay. And just to have your mother there would have been heaven to me. But that's where my mom already is, so I'll just have to wait before we get to visit again. Oh, and I do love your shiny sparkly undies!

  10. What a hoot! Remember the camper rules out in Yellowstone: you pack out what you pack in, so don't drop any glitter from hiking with the new skivvies. DrumMajor

  12. I love reading about your doings. But I have a question: when all your activities involve so much food consumption, how do you manage to stay so slender?

  14. What a wonderful day you had! I have to echo Hattie's question, but I suspect the answer is that you're constantly busy, if not at home, then at zumba classes and other things.
If that baker had made a cake for the Queen of England, he'd be able to advertise himself as "Baker to Her Majesty the Queen" — is there a Hawaiian equivalent that means "Baker to the Emperor and Empress"?

  16. It must have been a fun Mother's Day Kay. The flower bouquet looked almost too pretty to eat but I would have had an eye on those chocolate covered strawberries also. The sparkly undie part and KC's choice made me smile. That cake must have also been quite something.

  17. What a great day for you with family and yummy food. I would have hung out at the fruit basket. That looked delicious.
Victoria Secret huh? It is a shame to hide those but I guess polite society demands that. At least you will know.

  19. First I looked at the photos and then I went back to read. I couldn't fathom how fresh fruit and underwear came to be in the same post -- and I was half afraid to find out. LOL!

  20. Hattie: I'm actually not all that slim. However, my diet is usually a lot of veggies and fish. Our desserts are normally fruit. For special occasions we do have fun, though. This rain we've having is really impeding our walking. Tsk.

Kay L. Davies: Hmmm... "Baker to the Emperor and Empress" might make anice sign for whoever this chef is.

Everybody: Hope you had a great Mother's Day!
