Wake up was at 5:30 AM. Breakfast at 6:10. Back to the room at 6:45 to get ready for our trip down south to Whittier where we were to board our cruise ship, the Diamond Princess. I was able to check e-mail one last time because I knew that Wi-Fi was going to be much too expensive while on the ship.
We were able to enjoy the glass domed train again under happy, sunny skies.
I think mom is looking at beaver lodges here. We were served a delicious lunch on the train.
Our tour leader, Deb treated us all to any drink we wanted. Mom and Auntie Grace chose a smoothie which they really enjoyed.
It was difficult saying goodbye to Deb. We all knew we'd miss her. She truly made the land portion of our trip enjoyable and worry free. She left us at Anchorage and we all waved good bye to her after chanting her special tour song.
The skies were cloudy again when we neared Whittier where our cruise ship was docked. It was an impressive sight.
The embarkation was very efficient. We were impressed with how quickly we were able to get onboard and find our luggage already waiting for us in our rooms.
After enjoying our first buffet meal on the ship, we went for the muster deck practice. I shouldn't have told mom that the size and gradeur of the ship reminded me of the Titanic. Ooops! We learned how to wear our life vests and were told where we needed to go in the event of an emergency. This was all reassuring.
Then we went back to our rooms and just enjoyed the view outside of our balconies.
The bathroom was quite tiny, but manageable.
We unpacked and then just crashed. We were exhausted!

I've really enjoyed the first part of your tour, such wonderful sights. But all of those early mornings wouldn't have done for me at all. I'm not a late waker or riser, but that early is too early for me!
ReplyDeleteThey didn't skimp with the lunch served on the train, that's first rate service of them.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you chose a good tour.

ReplyDeleteGlad you showed pics of your cabin as I was curious about the size. You are right: it is tiny. Ah, well, another adventure!
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying all your pictures and reflections about your trip.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are simply beautiful and all seem to be having a wonderful time.
Your ship room looks a lot bigger then ours was and the food just kept on coming!
When my brother was on a cruise, he went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and pulled the wrong knob and ended up taking a shower.
I'm sorry, I still laugh at that one!
No wonder you were exhausted! After all those early mornings! The ship looks huge. Looking forward to the next post.
ReplyDeleteThe day does sound exhausting. Seeing the pictures and reading you account makes me want to make the cruise again. It really was a wonderful trip for us. I hope it was for you also.
ReplyDeleteI envy you your land tour. How wonderful! We did a cruise to Alaska and back (to Vancouver) with Holland America, but your land tour sounds fabulous.

ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure you're having!! The ship is impressive. And they are very efficient about getting people on board and settled, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThis Princess ship is one of a group of similar cruise ships. I saw one in Rotterdam 2 years ago. And my daughter Thyme saw one in New York. They are beautiful.
