I was able to get together with the "Girlfriends Club" again on Tuesday. All nine of us taught together at the same school until one by one we retired or moved to a different school. All but two of us are retired. Even after a year and a half apart, it was like no time had passed. The group meets once a month at the same round table at Ruby Tuesdays.
The menu had changed, but I tried their New Orleans Seafood (Creole seasoned tilapia with Parmesan sauce), sugar snap peas and grilled zucchini. I really liked it! Some of the others were not thrilled with their choices, but I was lucky... or maybe I was hungry.
The best part of all, of course, was not the food. It was being together again. Just one friend had an emergency and couldn't be there, but the rest of us were able to catch up on our lives. There were lots of travel stories, lots of new grandchildren, lots of school doings. (And yes, I'm wearing my new blouse.)
What the girlfriends told me:
They told me that property taxes had jumped ridiculously high in Cook County and you should contest it. Chicago must be going broke like Hawaii. Property taxes, however are even higher in Chicago. No kidding.
White fruits and vegetables will (may) cut your stroke risk. I found this USA Today link.
Margarine is bad for you. Well... I looked that up on the web and found out from the Mayo Clinic that it's not necesarily so. Then again, I didn't do a thorough search so it's probably inconclusive. If you know, please tell me.
Gosh! It sure was a lot of fun! I'm going to eat an apple tomorrow... and maybe a banana. Maybe I'll check up some recipes for cauliflower. We'll see.

The retirees group sounds like a great idea. Good friends, good times. My hubby has a retirees group that meets once a month for breakfast. Maybe I should form a group and list it on Meetup.com.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely time you had with the Girlfriends Club Kay!! You all looked so happy!
ReplyDeleteFYI: Someone once told me Margarine is one molecule away from being plastic!!! I only use real butter, sparingly though.
Your purple blouse looks FABULOUS on you! Glad you were able to get together with your friends.
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky to meet the old friends again.
ReplyDeleteAnd your new blouse looks good.
I wonder what the Mayo Clinic says about mayo.
I always make a pureed cauliflower soup (with nutmeg!). Glad to hear it's especially healthy.
I had a group of women who met together once a month at our own homes for over 25 years. I miss them, and reading about your girlfriends reminded me of all the good times we had talking about everything under the sun.
ReplyDeletewhat a homecoming and reunion of teachers...fun times
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you were able to get together with your girlfriends, Kay. You look good in your new blouse!

What a wonderful group shot. You all have such happy smiles to be together with each other. What a fun idea too and the food looks like a big bonus.

Sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to get together with old friends.
ReplyDeleteButter is better and good on califlower. Dianne
ReplyDeleteYou look so happy in that photo. Interesting about the property taxes. I hear the same complaint from friends in New Jersey. And their energy bills are soaring, too.
ReplyDeleteI love groups like yours. I miss my teacher friends. We need to start meeting on a more regular basis. My husband's school has a monthly retiree breakfast. We go to that quite regularly and always enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI love how I always learn new things from you. I better have an apple today and buy some cauliflower too.
how great that you've all stayed in touch like this! Lovely get together and you look so nice in your purple top!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this outing, now i'm off to check out that link, thanks

My old school girl friend group meets once a month and various locations. It's fun to catch up and keep up with one another.
ReplyDeleteI eat an apple and a half of a banana almost every day. And cauliflower quite often. Good for me, I guess.
I just read that an apple each day will lower one's cholesterol. And I've always been a butter girl!
ReplyDeleteKay, I did a blog on margarine and it is indeed bad for you. The research said it was like eating plastic (ugh). Glad you had a good time with your friends, liked the picture.
