Long Grove Apple Fest

The sun finally came out this morning and stayed with us for the whole day.  We decided to take advantage of this gift and headed out to the Long Grove Apple Fest.  Long Grove is known for its chocolate candies.  Incredibly, I didn't buy any.

I've never been here for the Apple Fest so the crowds surprised me.

Well, of course KC got her daddy to buy her an apple.  Despite the 24 hour traveling/flying time from Singapore and the 13 hour time difference between Singapore and Chicago, Ed slept for 12 hours after arriving yesterday afternoon and with two big cups of coffee this morning appeared to be fine.

There was this display of chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecake and bananas, but I didn't buy any.

I did take a good long look at it though.

There were also fried Snickers and Twinkies, but I passed that by too.

The pumpkin displays really got you in the Fall spirit.

KC loved looking for the perfect pumpkin.

I tried the different sauces.  There was one hot sauce that even my Korean-American son-in-law said numbed his tongue so I decided not to get it for my brother.

KC just wanted a purple balloon butterfly.

Although KC has always been shy and wary of Santa Claus, this time she smiled and loved having her photo taken with Kris Kringle who was still on vacation till Christmas.

There were LONG LONG LONG lines for the Apple Haus brown bag apple pie.  We got ours.

It's always been our favorite apple pie.

However, you do know that it is chock full of butter and sugar.  It's scrumptious!

It was a beautiful, sunny day.  When we got home there were e-mails from both my cousin and brother informing me that my two aunts are doing well.  One is recuperating at home.  Auntie Grace will be discharged in a day or so.  What a relief!

It was a perfectly wonderful day!

  1. Thanks for the reminder. I have great memories of Long Grove. I like to go there when I visit my brother in the area. I found one of my favorite handbags in a shop and some great books at the bookstore. We met a fine fellow from Russia working there by the name of Igor. Great conversation with him. It's a neat place to shop.

  3. What a great day! Your pictures took me right along with you. I also would have looked long and hard but passed such things as fried oreos by. But that apple pie? It does look like something worth indulging in.

  8. Wow...never seen a pie like that before. Usually the pies we buy are neat and evenly filled, but that pie proudly states it's taste that matters. I too would have passed all the chocolate and saved my calories for this yummy treat.

Everyone looks so happy together, especially nice for KC.

  9. I am really enjoying these posts. I think I could bypass most of the goodies. But the chocolate-covered strawberries would draw me in. I do love them and feel obliged to try all the ones I come across.

  12. I hope you are sound asleep as I type this. You can read it in the morning.
I love events like the apple fest, and apple pie is good, but this time of year I just crave the sweet, juicy tang of a crisp new apple!
I'm glad to hear the aunties are doing well.
