Recently he and another fellow won the regional Papa John's contest for making the best pizza in Hawaii. They won $500. and a chance to go to Kentucky representing Hawaii to compete in the national contest.

OK... so they didn't win but that's probably just because those judges didn't know better. Look at him! I would have voted for him just because he's so cute.
We took Mom to Papa John's yesterday to sample one of Cody's pizzas. We stayed to eat it fresh. Let me tell you, pizza is just like donuts. It makes a difference when you eat it fresh. I usually never eat the crust, but this time I ate the whole thing.
We all ordered the personal pan pizza and drink (a can of coke) which was the lunch special. Only $5.00!!! Can you believe it? None of us were able to finish all our pizzas so we had it for dinner as well.

Mom and I had the spinach pizza. Doggone it! I forgot to order anchovies with mine.

Art had the sausage. That was a surprise. Art never eats sausage. He's very finicky about fat content.
Mom was really impressed. She said it was the best pizza she'd ever had. Mind you, she also said it's only the 2nd pizza she's had in the last 30 years, but who's counting?
Art and I lived in the pizza capital of the world, Chicago for 35 years and let me tell you, this was really wonderful!
Do go on over to Mapunapuna and have one too. Maybe you'll remember to order the anchovies. Just be sure to tell them Cody's grandma sent you.
Oh... my diet you ask? It starts tomorrow!

We always buy Pizza Hut pan pizza supreme, but David and I will check out your nephew's pizza. Mahalo for the heads up.
ReplyDeletejust as well that you forgot the anchovies, lol. The pizza looks fabulous, lovely nephew!
ReplyDeleteI rarely eat pizza, but I've had one that looks a lot like that spinach one. They sure do look good! :-)
ReplyDeleteLike Djan, I am almost unAmerican in my lack of pizza eating but that spinach one looked good. Add a little pineapple and I could do it.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is a cutie and he can be proud.
Wonder if they had a regional choice, like SPAM, kalua pork or fish? The pizza from my neighborhood Papa John's isn't as dry as Pizza Hut's. I like spinach, pineapple, chicken and their crust DOES taste better. I don't look at their content labels. Our's even delivers in suburban K.C. A trip to Kentucky vs. Hawaii? I'd stay in Hawaii. ReplyDeleteWe have to depend on local companies for the pizza we get. And it is usually very good but then we only know how local they are and what they taste like.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that I will get to your nephew's store any time soon but I have had Papa Johns pizza here and they are good (not as good as Cody's, I'm sure).
ReplyDeleteYou can eat pizza but limit the quantity and drink diet coke! Sounds wonderful...
ReplyDeleteThere's a Papa John's just around the corner from me and now all I can think about is pizza!!! Cody is such a good looking young man!! I know you're proud of him -- I know I would be! Hope your weekend is going well, Kay! Enjoy!

Pizza can actually be very healthy food. If the crust is not too greasy and you get the veggie kind I think it helps.
ReplyDeleteI always order the vegetarian style and David gets the meat lovers speicial. We get the smallest pizza and have the baker split the pizza toppings.
I haven't tried Papa John's pizza, but we have one up the street. I would like to pop over to Mapunapuna, but the pizza would be cold by the time I got home. Dianne
Thanks for the heads up. I love pizza! Not very good for us pre-diabetics.
ReplyDeleteWow, lots of nice surprises about your wonderful family. Your mom has lots to be proud of.

I love a good pizza but as you, I have to watch my diet – my cholesterol was high last time it was tested. Just looking at Cody’s pizza makes me very hungry. The personal pan spinach pizza looks super yum!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks very tasty!Have a nice week Kay!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting hungry now. :-)
ReplyDeleteCody--so nice, and so nice to have a pizza chef in the family.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, he really is cute. And the spinach pizza looks wonderful. Unfortunately, I can't eat pizza because it has tomato sauce and I'm on a bland diet. If I come back to Hawaii, maybe Cody will make one for me with no tomato sauce. Do you think it work?

Now I want pizza!
ReplyDeleteIf you feel good, don't let numbers and norms scare you, Kay. Continue to enjoy life and live prudently. Doing tests because something is 'not in a certain range' often creates expense and worry to no good end. Medicine does what it does, we use it, and sometimes smile privately and 'know better' than to buy in all the way . . .
All the best to you, Art, Mom and the clan!

To me, it's all in the crust. If the crust lacks the amore no amount or type of ingredients will save the pie. And that's a glowing review. They should expect a rush this week.
ReplyDeleteHere in California Papa Johns is a take & bake only. They even have ads that say they do not have ovens so I was surprised to hear that you had yours in the store. My husband wondered if Hawaii has a law that requires pizza be baked onsite.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! But I have go to say, the best pizza I ever had was in a town on the Spanish coast. I think it was the extra good cheese, the fresh tomato, the olive oil, and the hot green peppers!
ReplyDeleteIn Europe they make pizzas smaller and with less fat, and a salad and red wine are the usual accompaniments.
I live in Florida, and I think Papa John's has some really good pizza here too. "Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John's" lol.
ReplyDeleteWe order from that very Papa John's every Friday. Like you we also like our with anchovies.
ReplyDeleteI know that this is an old post but if anyone does read this here is a tip. If you order online you can use promo code "1299x2" to get an XL one topping pizza for only $12.99.
Papa Johns is the only place we go to eat pizza.
