Brrrrrr....

It's in the mid 60's right now on Oahu and I'm wearing a light sweater.  Mom is wearing a fleece jacket that we normally bring on travels in spring and winter.  She says she's freezing!  I look out my window and I see my neighbors walking around with sweatshirts and jackets.

Chicago Botanic Garden

Meanwhile, we talked to my daughter and granddaughter on Skype yesterday and they were so thrilled in Chicago to have 45 degree weather that they spent the day walking around the Botanic Gardens.

Weather really is all relative, isn't it?

  1. I saw that bridge and instinctively searched your photo for Tif, Jon, Naomi, and Edo. Oops, wrong generation for 2012.

Yes, I guess they are grateful for 45 degrees. So sad that hundreds have died in Europe's present cold spell.

  2. Our world is white and wonderful( behind the windows of a warm house. I went to our Saturday choir practicing, but didn't dare to cycle for fear that I would fall because it's rather slippery. Still compared to the east European countries, where the temperature is 25 degrees below zero, the west European countries are not cold with 10 degrees below zero. For me cold enough brrr. But it's so beautiful now the sun is shining!

  3. Love the header picture. Looks like our asters. Neat wooden bridge in the photo. I think the poles are shifting.. whatever that means ...... but everyone talks about that. In Montana we've had temps in the 40's and 50's all winter (so far) and barely any snow. Yipes

  4. cold is relative to what you are adjusted to. We had 50 and 60s yet long for summer heat, until it returns...lol!

  5. We had temperatures in the 60s yesterday and people were walking around in shirtsleeves. Yes, it is definitely relative!

  6. it sure is, your poor mum would be in a state of shock here in Northern Ontario,, we would have to bundle her up like an Eskimo
I would give anything for 60 degrees right now, we won't see like that for another 4 or 5 months!

  7. My indoor temperature is 71F at 4:15 am. I am wearing a windbreaker and long muumuu. In Wahiawa Heights, my solar weater installer says it is usually 55 degrees at night so he must burn his wood-burning stove for heat.,, which is why I would never live in Wahiawa Heights, too cold for me!

  8. It truly is all relative! I'm not (for once) complaining about the weather as we are having at least a few beautifully sunny days with temps in the low 50s and that feels almost like summer!! Hope you have a great weekend, Kay! Stay warm!

  9. I will for sure be glad when it gets back to the 50s or 60s here. I think are bodies do get used to a temperature range that is comfortable. I do much better with heat than cold. I hope your "cold snap" doesn't last too long.

  11. I think you are right on that one. When is the weather the very best in Hawaii?

  12. I would love the 60's...it is all relative ...

  13. Retired English Teacher: Actually, I like it best in winter because I prefer the cooler weather in Hawaii. It is however the rainy season. I imagine spring and fall might be best for most people just like everywhere else.

  14. I can agree with that last statement. I learned that in our move from Texas to Oregon.

  15. There are variables that factor in ...like wind. We are having quite the unusual winter, and that's ok with me!! Give me 60's and low 70's.

  16. They look like they are having so much fun. Yes, It's in the 70's here, I have all the doors and windows open, yet I have a sweater on. LOL It will be so much fun to see Jon, and it's so good you have Dennis to walk with you.

  17. We had about 60 as well. SInce we moved to NC, I do not own a real "winter coat" but I sure see them down here. When we went to Michigan for Christmas I about froze. Even spending most of my life there, I got used to the southern warm winters real fast.

I would love to take a walk in your Botanic Gardens.

  18. I'll trade ya. Cold is a matter of perspective. That 60 sounds like heaven compared to our 30s. At least we aren't getting that blast of snow the middle of the country is being bombarded with.

  20. Ha, it is relative. Sixty here is open window day but when I lived in Florida, it was light jacket day.

  21. Everyone was out playing today because it was warm! 60 degrees!
    Yep, it's all relative.

  22. It sure is!

It's been soooo chilly here, and when I was going to school in the mainland it would get into the 40s at night and I don't remember feeling that cold!

  23. We are balmy, with temperatures around 0 C.!
    Weather is relative! :-)

  24. The weather has certainly been interesting. Here in Florida, we've had many days still in the 80's and we should be in the high 60's now. We really need a break from the warm weather. Summer will be back before we know it!!
