Endearments

There was an episode of Chuck where his wife was captured by nefarious enemy agents.  I can't remember exactly what the situation was, but Chuck was able to figure out it wasn't really her calling him because she called him, "Dear."

If Art or I ever called each other "Dear" we'd know the other person was really an alien clone or something like that.  We've always used the endearment, "Sweetie."  I don't know why.  It just happened.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law call each other "Dear."  I've heard "Honey" used a lot by friends.  Then there's "Lovey Lumps" that another good friend uses.  I like "Darling" but it sounds too intimate for us to use.

What endearment do you favor?

POSTSCRIPT 1:  Awww... Thank you for asking about our after-race condition, everybody.  Art says his legs are a little tight,  but he's otherwise fine.  I got up this morning feeling surprisingly OK.  Knees are a little sore.  I'll have to call my brother later and find out if he's hobbling on one foot.

POSTSCRIPT 2:  OK... Talked to Dennis and he said he's not suffering any ill effects.  I just took another Motrin.  :-)

  1. Well, I was expecting you to write about your aches and pains, but you surprised me. How are you feeling today? About terms of endearment, I prefer "honey" or "hon" but we almost always call each other by our names. My guy has the ability to say it like it's a term of endearment...

  2. He calls me DEAR or MY LOVE.

I call him HONEY or DEAR.

But, we usually call each other by our first names.

  3. I usually shorten his name (Tony) to "Ton", but sometimes I slip in a "Sweetie" or two.

  4. "Dear" would be used with an edge, "Yes, Dear".
I guess I use "hon" occasionally, but usually we just use names.

  5. I love you guys. Only you could say "darling" sounds "too intimate" for a couple who've been married since forever!
Dick and I seem to save all the mushy names for the dog these days, and we refer to one another as "Mommy" and "Daddy" when we talk to Lindy, so we're really quite revolting to hear. Seems to me we just call one another Kay and Dick now.

  7. Anything but 'lovey lumps.'. I knew a man called 'honey' by his grandchildren. They heard their grandmother calling him 'honey' so they did too.

  8. Hobbling on one leg would be worth seeing! We don't really use endearments of that sort to each other, never have. What we do have is 'family' versions of our christian names. I do use endearments for my sons though, as well as pet family names.

  9. Lol at Linda's comment above.Living in a joint family we(me and Chandan) stick to names and that too was a big thing initially as in some part of our country, wives are not supposed to call their husband by their names .They refer them as "X/Y/Z's papa/baba ...depending on their kid's names .

  11. Believe it or not, my term of endearment is darling, or if I'm feeling silly, daaaaahling. We have other terms that are not for public consumption.

  12. The only thing we every use is Hon or Honey. Wait, I've used Dear when I was a bit upset and my teeth were gritted. Otherwise, it's just our names.

  13. what a lovely post, we are a little to shy tocall each other darling, I call him my love when we are with just intimate family.

  15. Wonderful that you all had so few aches. Nice recovery.
I don't have a fellow right now but when I do, I am adopting "Lovey Lumps". That is adorable.

  16. Okay Kay -- did you eat a cracker or something when you took the Motrin? (Aren't I a nagging pain about pains?)
Called my son "pumpkin" when little, then "bud", but refer to him as "my baby boy" even though he's 24! Still call him "sweetie" sometimes. Mostly hug and pat him on the head.
Seems the cool term these days is "baby" as expressed between my son and his fiance. "BABY!" was the big mean cuss word I could use when I was little and angry at my two older brothers.

  18. Drum Major: Yes Indeedy! Thank you very much for caring. I had a blueberry muffin and banana with guava juice. I have learned from two people who developed gigantic ulcers from taking Motrin on empty stomachs. Scary. I'm so glad you're watching my back!

  19. Glad someone else said they call each other mom and dad....I do sometimes. And that's even when our grown children are not around. I wonder if that's because I unconsciously value him more than my mate in life.

  20. I am so happy to have stumbled across your blog spot - it is so well done and I'm so very impressed. We miss you in our Tuesday night class. Glad to hear you did so well in the Great Aloha Run and thank you for posting great pictures. I myself did not make it this year - came down with a pretty bad head cold so needless to say, I'm very disappointed in myself.
Hope we get a chance to connect again. Until then, keep up the fun blog site. Much aloha....Diane.

  21. d higa: Hi, Diane! What fun to see your comment! I'm afraid the Tuesday night time slot was too late for the other Diane. I've been doing an extra class of Zumba on Fridays to make up for it.

I'm hoping to see more comments from you. :-)
