Despite a day of travel exhaustion behind them, Jon and Sarah opted to get up early and spend our Thursday with us. Mom was asleep last night when they came in but she greeted Jon during his breakfast with a hug! Art said he was totally flabbergasted. I don't ever remember her initiating a hug.
After breakfast we headed out to Mililani. Jon and Sarah enjoyed our outdoor Tai-chi lesson at the park and really caught on to a lot of the intricate moves. Jon says we should take a Kung Fu class next since many of the moves are similar. He says all Tai-chi classes should be taught outdoors under the trees.
After Kung Fu... I mean Tai-chi, we had them try Shige's Saimin in Wahiawa which they really enjoyed. We told Jon and Sarah that this is the sort of restaurant that Art's parents used to operate in Honokaa many years ago. And this is what made Art such a great husband who knows how to cook and wash dishes.
After lunch, we took them to Honda Tofu to see how tofu is made. (We had fresh tofu for dinner along with mom's Famous Lemon Chicken.)
Then on to Costco for a few purchases.
Made our tofu delivery to Art's aunt.
Back at home we all crashed, totally exhausted.
We were suddenly awakened by the familiar beeps on the computer that a Skype call was waiting. We knew who it was. There was KC's happy face saying, "Hi grandma! Look what I got at the bird park." Jon and Sarah were surprised at how verbal and talkative she now was. It was hard for them to believe how quickly their niece was growing up.
Unlike their usual late dinners after work and school in New Mexico, dinner here is served at 5:00 PM on the dot. That's when grandma rings the dinner bell!
We then took a two mile hike before coming back to a jello dessert.
I think Jon and Sarah are seeing that although we are retirees, we are able to keep busy.

Boy, I'll say! No wonder you were so tired, after all that activity. I love the picture at the restaurant, everybody looks so happy. Did the server take your picture?
ReplyDeleteAnd on Mom's hug: she must see it around her often enough that she just had to try it! :-)
Wow, you day was action packed but a wonderful one! You and Art are always so active-I think that is great!! Have fun on the rest of your visit with Jon and Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI almost missed this post, thinking the 5-0 post was it for the day. Lol. I think it is great that Jon and Sarah saw how active you are as retirees. You sure do know how to have fun!
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I think they rather just kick back on vacation. Not keep up with you folks.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are going to have to be careful that you don't wear those young folks out with your retiree lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like everyone is having a great time.....I love hearing about the hug from your mom.
You sure are busy, but I'm keeping my eye on the food. Love lemon chicken and want that recipe. Dianne
ReplyDeleteWe always wear out our mainland friends. The two we have now are pretty frisky though, in spite of being oldsters like us.
ReplyDeleteAwww..the hug was so sweet and you all are troopers on no sleep...
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful that the kids wanted to tag along with you on your routines. They will be able to picture you going about your daily life when you are separated again. And yes, as retirees, we seem to have less down time than ever. but we get to CHOSE our activities.
ReplyDeletemay you have many many such days!
ReplyDeletePhew. I hope the kids can keep up with you.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that Jon and Sarah are visiting. You had a full day of enjoyable activities.
