Here's another memory from the photos I'm scanning. This is from 1983. We bought a new stove and here was this huge box that the kids loved playing with. I decided to paint it for them to make it extra fun.
I couldn't decide if I should do a girlish theme that Tif would like or a boyish one for Jon so I compromised.
Tif wanted a fairy tale paint job so she got that.
She's pictured here with her friend, Lisa.
For Jon, I painted a space ship. Too bad I didn't do a fire house painting since he was a fire fighter for a couple of years before going back to school.
Eventually, we found the cardboard box taking up too much room so I donated it to Jon's kindergarten class where I was volunteering every week. I was happy to see the box enjoyed for several years before it wore out.
Yup! Even back then, we were into reusing and recycling. Therefore next time you all have an empty appliance box, you know what to do with it.

We usually have the movers haul away the boxes. No space for storage at home. But good for your kids that you decided to be creative.

ReplyDeleteMy kids played in big boxes but their mother wasn't talented enough to do the art work. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteKids and cats always love boxes. Dogs just ignore them after they find out there's no food in them.
ReplyDeleteYou sure did a great job of this!
K
Clever idea, Kay, and your children had hours of make-believe thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteboxes are such creative play things...
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that children prefer the packaging? We have a wonderful photograph of Oliver, aged about four, fast asleep inside a really small cardboard box.
ReplyDeleteChildren love boxes. Every time we get anything in a big box now I wish I had little ones nearby to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteWell now aren't you clever. Plain ole boxes facinate most kids. You really went the extra mile. Great job.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. I love the way you added to the boxes!
ReplyDeletehandy. glad they got years of life.
ReplyDeleteKay, you really went all out in decorating.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, my two friends (boys) and I would go "box-hunting" in the alleys of our neighborhood in Chicago.
