I don't know what it is about the Corningware, Corelle, Revere Outlet that draws me like a magnet.
We went to visit Art's cousin, Betty and her husband in Camarillo, California and wouldn't you know they live very close to the Camarillo Outlet! It's HUGE!
And they have a Corning, Corelle, Revere Outlet store. I was in heaven until I saw the prices. It seems everything has gone up. However, there was a deal to buy 12 pieces of the Open stock and you'd get 40% off. We also had a AAA discount that took off another $7.00 if you spent more than $50.00. Woo hoo!
My sister-in-law, Kay had shown me these new divided plates that kept the sauce and drippings in their own place and I liked the novelty of the idea so I bought eight of them. Ummm... and a few other fun pieces.
They were a little heavy to carry home in my carry-on, but they will be a nice addition to my collection.
Yes, mom thought I'd gone crazy when she saw them.
However, she thinks that it may be a good way to exert some portion control.
My daughter laughed when I told her.
"Mom, you're turning into me," she said. "You know how I don't like my food to touch."
Hmmm.... I wonder if I was more drawn to them because they reminded me of the divided lunch trays we used to have in elementary and high school. I sure wish I could taste those shortbread cookies we used to have again. Sigh...

Cute plates! I would have bought them, too!
ReplyDeleteI have a fussy eater in my family, this would surely help! I would love to visit this store, I really would!
ReplyDeleteCome on over! We have one in Wisconsin too. ;-)
DeleteI don't like my food to touch either.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea that they would be good for portion control.
ReplyDeleteIn your next-to-last photo, the white bowls on the middle shelf?? I've got a stack of them which I've used for years. They're such a convenient size.
ReplyDeleteThose are cereal and rice bowls. I use them everyday and love them too. They're also good for food preparation.
DeleteI've never had divided plates but I think I'd like them.... like you said, perhaps one wouldn't eat as much. Did you ever watch Monk on TV? Those are the plates he should have had and nothing would touch.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Monk and liked it. I don't see it scheduled on TV now though. Hmmm... does this mean I could be getting a little quirky here? :-)
DeleteI like them, never knew you could get plates like that. Yes, portion control!
ReplyDeleteI love Corelle too. My fine china sits unused in a kitchen cabinet. As for portion control I have a scale and measuring cups. By now I know the size of every portion for every dish and glass. Dianne
ReplyDeleteI love white Corelle too...I ordered some online since earlier I bought a white set in the store. I remember commenting on the deals forum that white is my favorite color because I can add on more pieces years later without worrying if the sets match.
ReplyDeleteL....w
That's the exact reason I like the white too. I also like being able to add the open stock items.
DeleteThis is hilarious! At first I thought they were paper plates, and then I read your post. I am interested if you will like them as much once the novelty wears off. :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... That's a good question. It could very well be a novelty. We'll see...
DeleteI didn't know they had such stores! I have all white Corelle too, because I don't like vines, flowers and graphics poking out of my food. I picked them up as a boxed set from WalMart, along with pasta bowls. My tea cups must be white on the inside or clear, so I can see the strength of the tea. I hated my food touching as a youngster. ReplyDeleteThey have a Corning, Corelle, Revere Outlet in Kenosha, Wisconsin too. That would be closer to you, I think. I do go there every time I visit Chicago.
DeleteEvery time I see a Corningware outlet I go in, hoping I can find replacements for some broken casserole lids. Unfortunately, I never do; I think they retired the size/shape.
ReplyDeleteEverything old is new again. I ate from my grandmother's everyday blue ware divided exactly like that--almost seventy years ago. They are still unique. A novelty.
ReplyDeleteI saw these plates somewhere, and thought, who would buy such things except people with small children? Now I know. There are adults out there who want to keep their food from touching, a la Mr. Monk. I love Corelle and am still using my set from 38 years ago when we got married. But mine are the harvest gold flower pattern.
ReplyDeleteLike Kathy, I always go into Corning outlet stores, hoping to find missing pieces, but to no avail. 38 years is too long. I think I now need to check the antique stores.
These plates look very organized!
ReplyDeleteCorning, New York is a really nice small city in New York in the Finger Lakes Region. I go there whenever I visit my brother. My grandson is a glass blower there. Glass blowing has become his life. It's all about glass in Corning. [I'm assuming this Corning ware is from the Corning Company in New York.] There is also a really interesting glass museum in the Corning Co. building. Some of the ancient Roman pieces look so modern it's amazing. Oddly, there is a fine Western Art museum in Corning as well. I think it's because Frederick Remington the sculptor and artist of cowboys, horses, and Indians came from around there.
ReplyDeleteIt's in New York? Wow! One of these days, I'd love to go there. Then my suitcase will be even HEAVIER coming home and my mother will really think I've lost my mind.
DeleteI'm glad I don't know anyone who lives near a Corning/Corell outlet, or I'd be visiting, often. I don't think Dick would like the divided plates, however much I talked about portion control.
ReplyDeleteK
Those plates look just like Chinette paper picnic plates, but you can reuse them!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these plates Kay. Funnily I was just in the supermarket an hour ago and found these lunchboxes where you can divide all your food, including your sandwiches. I am a bit like Tiffany in terms of liking to keep my food separate. And they keep you focussed on having th elarger area of the plate filled with vegetables and salad and protein and starches in the smaller areas. You both look wonderful in the pic and you sure do get around. And I bet those cookies wouldn't taste the same as they did in school - our memories play tricks on us sometimes lol.
ReplyDeletePS My sister and her family had a wonderful holiday over your way. They said it was very welcoming and relaxing.
I'm so glad your sister and family had a good time in Hawaii, Lilly. I hope the weather was good to them. It's been so iffy lately.
DeleteOh yeah, now I remember those divided trays in high school. And you had special shortbread cookies too?? Once the Chicago Trib even published the recipe for our big lunchroom cookies at Senn.
