Helpful Hint

A while back I mentioned a helpful hint about using a post-in note to catch the debris when drilling.  I don't think everybody quite got what I meant so when Art took out the drill to fix a drawer I took out my camera.

It really does work perfectly!

And you know that I really do have a lot of post-it notes.

See... Isn't it wonderful?

  1. My spouse would NEVER do such a thing. He takes pride in the messes he makes with his projects. I will add that he also takes pride in the clean up he does after.

  6. Kay, Great hint but I avoid tools like the plague. Truth is, I can't even pound a nail let alone use a drill. I agree with anonymous..... a lot better than dragging out a vacuum.

  10. The arthritis in my wrist makes the electric drill very special. I love Art's. It is Art's isn't it? Dianne

  11. It would work fine with the occasional small drilling task or at hard to clean up areas...so thanks!! But being the frugal person I am, my first thought was...oh such a waste of a post it note paper. I have tons of these too, yet I still deliberate using it even as post it. Now you know how frugal I can be lol

    1. Art is very frugal too. I noticed later that he put the post-it note back on my pad so I could use it which I did. I wrote a note for him to remember to trim the lemon tree. :-)

  13. Very very clever. That is now filed in my memory banks for future use. Now if I can only remember where I filed it.

  14. Lol!!!....I would have done exactly what Art did, or find some immediate post it note need. I started reading a book on the subject of frugality, "Living Rich by Spending Smart...how to get more of what you really want" by Gregory Karp, a free book on Amazon. There he suggested evaluating purchases for "psychological income"....from what I read in your blog posts, Art seems like the kind of guy that has a keen sense of psychological income derived from stuff. While pretty darn frugal on expenses that have low PI, he knows how to spend well on high PIs like cruises and trips! Of course, you could say why be so thrifty about cutting small expenses, but it is more than that. It is a mindset that gets exercised and the book emphasizes that like a muscle the more it gets used the better it performs on the many money decisions everyday. While lots is common sense, I'm enjoying the read and think I should take notes.

  15. Our handyman does that with blue painter's tape. This is a very cool idea.

  16. I was telling Terry about this, and he showed me how he is using post-its around the house to check for termite droppings, folding them and putting them on the wall. I hadn't even noticed!

  17. Nifty idea. I'll show it to our ace handyman when he's here this weekend.
