Loving My Slides

As most people know, Asian cultures generally don't use outside shoes inside the home.  In Hawaii everyone tends to follow that rule no matter what other culture they're from.  I remember one guest we had who kept his shoes on when he forgot something and (rather than taking off his shoes) walked throughout the house to get what he needed.  Ummmm.... That earned him a black mark from mom.  I'm surprised she didn't follow after him with a mop (to clean the floor, not to hit him with).

Even though Art installed laminate flooring with padding underneath, it's still more comfortable to wear some kind of footwear in the house.  I called them slippers before, but apparently they're now called slides.

I've tried several and hadn't found the perfect one.  You have to remember that I am a klutz. Yes it's true.  I've been known to trip over my own feet.

These Nike slides are OK.  Mom likes them a lot.  I still tended to trip every so often with them.  I must walk with my toe pointed downward or something.

Mom used these, but they broke when the glue gave out so I gave her my pink ones while Art used shoe glue to fix these black ones.

Eventually, it broke again so I switched to these gray Reebok slides below.  The problem with the Reeboks is that I was tripping too often and the rubber was too stiff to be comfortable.  Art was forever worried saying, "Was that you?" everytime he heard a bump.

When I was at City Mill (hardware store) I spotted these raspberry/oyster Croc slides.  A little pricey, but they fit well.  Another customer said she had a pair and loved them.  I added it to my Wish List and my son, Jon's Sarah bought them for me.  I usually use a  size 6.5 but these 7s fit perfectly.  I'd tried the black ones of the same style but they fit differently.  It was tighter.  The only glitch in this pair is that the heel sort of tapers in toward the floor making it more stylish, but not quite as stable.  However, I've only twisted my ankle once so I'll be more careful.  It also doesn't have any stress points to become unglued which is good in Hawaii's salt air.

The Crocs are very comfortable so I'll be keeping my fingers ....  and toes crossed that this will be the perfect pair forever.

  1. Raised in the city, we never found it necessary to even think of removing our shoes going in or out of the house. However upon becoming a county girl it was necessity for one to remove the outside shoes. Often visitors would arrive and insist on remaining on the porch to talk rather than to come inside and "track up the house" in their muddy shoes. Most of our guest will see our shoes at the front door and will remove their shoes but right now we have construction going on and the workmen are tracking my floors something awful. Wish I could offer them some slides.

  2. your new crocs looks so cute, and crocs have a comfortable reputation! In Canada, we take our shoes off before entering the house, leaving them by the door. Once we had a visitor from the US who wore her dress boots upstairs, we were horrified although it was in the late spring and they were dry. If there is a next time I will have to say something, it happened so quickly last time.

  3. I take off my shoes and put on my slippers when I enter the house. Hubby does the same. It would seem odd to wear shoes inside the house, but going barefoot is not an option. At my sister's home, we go barefoot, but it's Florida and anything more than socks seems to be too much. :-)

  4. That is what I was wearing on my feet when I was outside running around this morning when it was 6 below and I didn't know it. I thought my feet were slightly cold when I came in. Ha. Although there is also a dance called the "slide'" I guess I use the old fashion word and call them scuffs. (I think that is also MY dancing) :)

  5. Even though Crocs are made here I have never had a pair, but I have bought quite a few pairs for my grandkids. They have lots of styles these days and people do seem to think they are very comfortable.

  6. Although it's not a house rule, the first thing I do when I come in from outside is change into "house shoes"--flip flops in the warm weather, and an old, broken-in pair of tennis shoes when it's cold. I wear the house shoes outside if I have to run to the mailbox, compost pile, etc.

  7. Those are pretty footwear. If it were me, I would be wearing rubber slippers inside the house.

  8. We go barefeet indoors but learned to wash our feet before coming into the house. Still we're spreading human oils from our feet so the carpets and floors do get dirtier than if we wore some kind of footwear. We should wear slides indoors but I'm a klutz and would probably trip often too.

  9. I have a pair of crocs I bought at Walmart that are so comfortable. Swedes take off their shoes too inside and wear wooden clogs. It does keep your floors cleaner. Be careful!

  10. We do not insist on shoe removal in our house, but we hope people will at least wipe their feet. I have to wear shoes for foot support, so I have inside sneakers and outside shoes. I do change my shoes a lot, going in and out. I have rubber garden clogs I wear for quick outside trips.
