Sunday was the Aloha Run/Walk Expo where you pick up your racing bib and check out different running/walking booths that sell things like sun glasses, hats, energy gels and what not.
I'm a little (LOT) worried about this 8+ mile race from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium because the most I've walked so far this year is 2 miles. Can I do 8? I don't know.
My brother, Dennis says his foot is better now, but will his arch stay painless for 8 miles? I don't know.
We started Sunday morning by going to an 8:00 garage sale at McKinley High School. Since we were going into town, I thought it would be good to hit two birds with one trip.
It was a ton of fun. Well... It was for me! There were some excellent bargains.
We picked up our racing bibs and "chips" at the Blaisdell Center when it opened at 9:00 AM. The money they make from this race goes toward a multitude of charities in Hawaii.
There were a variety of exhibits and booths selling lots of racing, traveling, health related items.
After seeing this exhibit, I was glad I'd gotten my colonoscopy last year.
This exhibit gave you three tries to putt your ball into that hole. For every putt you sunk, you got a Kit Kat bar. If you got three in, you could have a back scratcher.
Art sunk one putt. Dennis also got one Kit Kat bar.
"Go ahead," said Art. Was he taunting me? "You did get that A when you took golf in college."
Art loves to laugh about how I got that easy A, but still don't know how to play or understand the game.
I sunk TWO putts and got TWO Kit Kat bars!!! How many? Yes! TWO! Next year, I'll have to try for the back scratcher.
When we got home I checked out our happy buys from the garage sale. All this cost $14.00!
I'm posting this before the run, of course. We'll be getting up at 3:30 AM on President's Day (Monday) in order to catch the bus at the Aloha Stadium which will take us to the start line at Aloha Tower in Honolulu.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Dennis' feet will be alright, that my knees don't give way, that I don't wear out, that Art makes the running time he wants, that it doesn't rain, that it's not too windy, that...

I really admire you and art for taking part in these events. Great buys from the garage sale.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a salad spinner like that, really good. The blow-up colon looks more fun than a colonoscopy. Good luck with your races! DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteI had a larger spinner just like this and used it for a long time before it broke. I was so happy to find this and it was only $1.00.
DeleteI look forward to hearing all about how it went tomorrow, Kay. Congratulations on your dedication to fitness. I hope it all goes well! You must be walking as I write this. :-)
ReplyDeleteA great way to spend President's Day! Hope your race goes well.
ReplyDeletewaiting to hear how you did...fun garage sale and two putts! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI hope the race goes well for all of you. You are a real trooper for giving it a go. There will be lots of energy in the race atmosphere....hopefully that will keep you going.
ReplyDeleteI can't golf, but I can putt. Once I get to the green, it's pretty easy. Driving is so hard.
ReplyDeleteI really like that clear glass casserole dish. You got some good finds at the sale. Good luck to you, Art and Dennis today. Hope you finish all 8 miles. We will be rooting for all of you!
ReplyDeleteAnd that you don't fall asleep in your tracks! Great finds, however.
ReplyDeleteHang on to those Kit Kat bars. You might need them for an energy boost at mile 6. Proud of you for getting out and doing something out of you comfort zone. Last time I tried a race that far, I was passed as though I were stopped by a pair of 70 year olds and I was a good 15 years younger at the time. Hope you all have a personal best day.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything better than a garage sale?!!!!
ReplyDeleteReduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose!
Cheers from Cottage Country!
can't wait to hear about the run, good luck!
ReplyDeleteLove the Pyrex baking dish. That would be a great find. The others? Not so much. Looks like the stuff I''ve cleared out around here.
ReplyDeleteActually, I was really excited about the salad spinner. We didn't bring vases with us when we moved to Hawaii from Illinois so I was glad to get these replacements. And the stamps? That was just for fun.
DeleteI love a good bargain too, but lately I'm not into buying much other than basic needs. Stuff that I can use as ingredients or basic materials and make things I buy. Yesterday, at Target I broke the rule and bought some clearance Valentine's Day chocolates (husband loves his snacks), and lots of t.p. on sale lol (that's basic alright)
ReplyDeleteL...w
I'm a great T.P. buyer too. LOL
DeleteI hope the weather for your run was better than it is here!
ReplyDeleteIt did rain, but it was mostly liquid sunshine. The winds over here have been horrendous though. I swear it's shaking the house.
DeleteIt's monday night, and I sure hope you and Dennis made it.
ReplyDeleteWe made it, but gosh! I'm sure tired.
DeleteYou walked through an intestine?? Did you see polyps?
