Not much happening today and my brain has gone to sleep. All I can share today is the weird Meyer lemon we picked.
I'd seen it slowly growing and ripening on the tree and wondered about the weird shape. It looked almost like two lemons had merged into one.
The oblong shape was so intriguing. We wondered what the inside would look like.
I don't think we've ever seen a lemon like this.
When squeezed it had about 1 1/3 cup juice.
I didn't know what to do with the juice so I poured it into two ice trays. I think that's the most juice I've gotten from one lemon.
I've read that there are all kinds of uses for lemons other than lemonade.
You can use it as a natural cleaner for bathroom and kitchen surfaces. Squeeze it on the surfaces and then wipe off the residue. Ummm.... I haven't tried this, but they say for stains you just add vinegar and water to the lemon.
Fresh lemon juice over cut veggies and fruits will keep them from browning.
You can also use it as a weed killer by pouring it into cracks where weeds start.
If you know of any other uses, do let me know.

better keep the seeds from that baby!!Thats a whopper!
ReplyDeleteWow! Is it sweet juice or sour? I never even heard of all those uses for lemon juice, Kay. Thanks for the tips, if I ever have a monster lemon like that I'll know what to do with it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid it's still the regular sour kind. Everybody likes to make lemonade with it.
DeleteMy family generally agrees that God intended lemons for lemon meringue pie.
ReplyDeleteYou can mix lemon zest (2 Tbsp.) with a cup of good sea salt, spread it on a baking sheet lined with parchment, and dry in a 200 degree oven for about an hour to make lemon flavored salt for salads and vegetables.
I have forgotten who, but someone just mentioned using a rasp from a hardware store to zest citrus.
Mmmmmmm.... This sounds wonderful!!! I LOVE lemon meringue pie.
DeleteDidn't know it could be used as a weed killer!
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously going to try this. Art says we've got lots of guinea pig weeds.
DeleteSalad dressings. LOL
ReplyDeletelooks like a pummelo a little
ReplyDeleteWow. I've never seen a lemon like that. I love that you are freezing it. Neat to read all the uses. I don't have any to add, but I loved reading about the others.
ReplyDeleteLemon juice rubbed in takes out grass stains. Or in this case, the length of the soccer field stains.
ReplyDeleteI have been pondering all day what to say about this lemon....
ReplyDeleteSave some of those lemon ice cubes for your granddaughter's next visit and she can set up a lemonade stand.
ReplyDeleteSigh.... I'm afraid they won't be coming to Hawaii this year. They'll be visiting Korea instead. Sigh...
DeleteThat is a record breaking lemon. Lemon juice can lighten dark age or sun damage spots on the skin when applied directly.
ReplyDeleteI have got to try this. I've got lots of dark spots.
DeleteOh I do love the smell of lemons. Yours looks almost like a grapefruit. Wonderful way to store the juice, in ice cubes. I use vinegar on our brick walks, I am sure lemon with all that acid would also work. But what a waste of a good lemon. Lemon is antibacterial, so you could probably use it to clean kitchen counters. ReplyDeleteWeed killer? Sounds interesting, but I'd have to have my own lemon orchard to keep up with the weeds here. We have 15x75 ft. of town property outside our fence, which we're responsible for weeding.
ReplyDeleteBut I love your interesting lemon, and am so impressed with it containing more than a cup of juice. Wonderful!

What a neat lemon!!!! I believe that Meyer lemons are a tangerine hybrid. Looks like yours was really in touch with its tangerine side!
ReplyDeleteWhat an ingenious idea to pour the lemon juice into ice cube trays!!! I have a good recipe for lemon meringue pie!! :)
I have a feeling the Hawaii Meyers are not the tangerine hybrids you find on the mainland because they really aren't sweet. They taste like a plain ol' lemon but they're juicier.
DeleteThanks for the post...even on a brain tired day, your post is a good way to start the day!
ReplyDeleteL...w
I think I've caught a cold or it's the voggy weather. I'm really draggggging.
Deletewow, I see lots of lemonade in your future...lol!
