Blogging is again a little sporadic for me right now since I'm back to my brain and time consuming photo scanning. I came across this 2004 trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island that we really enjoyed.
One of the many things that really stands out in our memories is Balancing Rock. I found this explanation on ExploreNovaScotia.com.
One of the many things that really stands out in our memories is Balancing Rock. I found this explanation on ExploreNovaScotia.com.
"From Halifax, follow Hwy 101 to Annapolis Valley. Take exit #26 to Digby, then follow signs to Route 217 towards Digby Neck. Follow Route 217 to Long Island (must cross on ferry to Tiverton). Watch for signs to the balancing rock trail on left.
Follow trail short distance to coastline where it descends sharply to the balancing rock viewing platform. The balancing rock is a spectacular columnar basalt sea stack that rests precariously on it's end. You have to see it to believe it."
Wow, great pics!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean with the blogging. I'm still on the everyday thing but the ideas are to
Have a great day!

How can that be??!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'd like to know.
DeleteDon't need to go there. I am awed by the photograph. It is certainly tempting to want to try to knock it down.
ReplyDeleteOur national parks-Zion and Bryce, if you like red rocks. That is quite a site-the balancing rock, would love to go see it!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look possible! I am curious if it's still there, too. Thanks for sharing this amazing picture.
ReplyDeleteSo much history in that rock. It tells of an ancient cliff that fell into the sea and left one tiny part of itself on the shore. Kind of sad. If this was Japan they would build a Tori here I think. Dianne
ReplyDeleteI'm awed by your photo of it. Such a sight.
ReplyDeleteVolcanoes National Park, of course.

I live in Canada and I've never been to Nova Scotia...this looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteI would like somebody to explain how this rock can just stand there.
DeleteSuch an amazing sight..unbelievable!!
ReplyDeleteYou so have travelled. I'm a homebody and very happy to live through your photos and blogs!!!!
ReplyDeleteCheers from Cottage Country!
Wow, that balancing rock is awesome to look at. David's dad was born in Boystown, New Brunswick, so we really should see that part of Canada.
ReplyDeleteJust amazing....an interesting quirk of nature. How can that be? Boy you have sure travelled a lot.
ReplyDeleteL. from W.
We do like to travel, but I don't think we've traveled all THAT much. There's so much more to see.
DeleteWow, I was in Nova Scotia a couple of years ago, the spring before we saw you in Hawaii. Nobody told me about the balancing rock, so I didn't go to Digby. It's really great, isn't it? Thanks for sharing some of my country with me.

I still can't figure out how it's managing to just stand there. When I first saw it, I was sure they'd somehow cemented it to the ground or something.
