Five Things I Love

I love reading a section in the Friday Honolulu Star Advertiser called Five Things We Love.  People write in to share a product they really love. (They have to write where they bought it, how much it cost and why they like it so much.)   So I thought I'd share 5 things that come to mind as I sit here.

C9 Loose fit short sleeve t-shirts from Target:

I bought 5 of these loose fit shirts at Target in Illinois.  These are not the work-out tops.  They have a more cottony feel and cost only $6.00! They were on SALE!   Woohoo!  I wish I'd bought more.  They have a looser feel so they don't cling to the body which is a good thing because I prefer not accentuating those parts of me that are...umm... less than ideal.

Eco bags:

I actually bought these ecobags in Japan several years ago.  I have them dangling from my backpack so they're ready for use anytime I go to the store.  I've seen similar eco bags at Whole Foods and even Office Maxx.  If everybody carried just one ecobag and used it, can you just imagine how much plastic waste we could avoid creating?
 Merrells Moc Shoes:

I really love the Merrell Moc shoes.  I bought another pair from TJ Maxx in Illinois and wore them as house shoes.  I find them super comfortable.  I really like them for travel.
Dove's Dark Chocolates

What can I say?  I love dark chocolates and I read some place a long time ago that Dove's Dark Chocolates had lots of those lovely flavonoids that are supposed to be good for you... in moderation.
Magically Magnetic Photo Frames by Lytle

I have a large white board where I like to put up photos.  I like these magnetic photo frames the best because they're sealed on three sides and I can turn them either horizontally or vertically without having the photo fall out.  I bought these at Longs/CVS.

Well, these are my five.  Do you have some things that you really love and are willing to share?

POSTSCRIPT:  Oops!  I'm noticing from the comments that I didn't make it quite clear enough what the newspaper column is about so I've corrected this post.  The five things are things you can actually purchase at a store.  :-)

  1. What a great idea, Kay. My mind is spinning. The Merrell Moc Shoes picked my interest the most because they remind of the "Croc" shoes and I wonder if they are that similar?

I will try a post about five things and see what I come up with.

  3. Love this post, what a great idea! But I have to give this some thought! I love your Moc shoes...look so comfy.

I love blogging, sunny days, having my daughter visit from university, cheesies, coke frosters!

  4. I wear Crocs around the house as slippers (with socks of course) and I also am a fan of vests of any kind. Silk underwear comes high on my list of favorite things.

Those are just off the top of my head. Oh yes, I also really like three-quarter-length sleeves. Wish they made more of them! :-)

  5. I'm looking for T-shirts like yours, but long sleeved. Wonder if Target would have them?

  11. I love your five things. 1) I will look for those t-shirts at Target. They look just like what I need. 2) I also love those eco bags. I carry one in my purse and have a larger one in my car. They are so handy to use when traveling. 3) Not a fan of Merrels because the just don't seem to fit me right, but I love the way the look. 4) Dove Dark Chocolates are a staple here. I have one everyday after lunch! 5) I also love those frames. I have them on my fridge for the grandkids pics.

I will have to think about my favorite five things. Perhaps I will do a blog on that soon.

  12. Abe: They're not exactly like Crocs because they're not all made of rubber.

Christine: Actually, the 5 Things I Love column was about things you can buy.

DJan: I never thought of wearing Crocs in the house. Hmmmmm.... I think I could ask for that for Christmas. I'm looking a a nice house slipper for Hawaii that I can wear WITHOUT socks. Too hot.

Kathy G: I've never looked for the long sleeve variety at Target. I get those at the Wisconsin outlet mall.

Gigi: I Photoshopped the edge of my roof off. I think that wavy effect is the window glass.

  13. Many of the things I like are things you have listed. I love loose shirts and wear them as pajama tops. I also wear Birkenstock clogs which are wonderful for my feet. I have seersucker shirts for summer and flannel shirts for winter, but wear tee shirts underneath.

Five things I love include, my dogs, my parrots, my garden, my books and my garden. I also love latte coffee made with real Italian expresso and chcolate too. I like a really good cup of tea but that;s hard to find here in the States.

    I love tulips.

I don't think I can keep this list to five things. Dianne

    Neat post.

  15. Nice! I like your likes. I like those shirts from Target too. They are so comfy and the older I get the more I look for comfort:)

  16. Not my absolute top 5, but I recently noticed how much I liked these.

    1. Kashi bars, dark chocolate coconut and the pumpkin spice.

    2. Mori-nu silken tofu (doesn't need refrigeration and long expiration date). I can often find internet manufacturers coupon and stock up when Longs has a sale on these.

    3. Harvest Hawaii pumpernickel rye bread sold at Pastisserie at Waimalu Plaza. Recently tried their breads with a coupon from 2011 Entertainment Book. Now I'm hooked.

    4. Food Saver vacuum bags. I bought it thinking I would love to store spices and herbs that are infrequently used. I also use it for storing jewelry I hardly wear. I bought the cheapest model on sale, around $10 online.

    5. Rice storage containers that double up as a storage vessel and measures out by the cup. No scooping.

  17. L: We get our tofu freshly made from Honda tofu in Wahiawa. They are the nicest people there. It's still warm when we bring it home. My mom is hooked on it.

I didn't know there was a patisserie at Waimalu. I'll keep a look out.

Rice Storage containers? I'm curious about this. Where do you get them?

  18. Is that the same brand sold at Costco? Wow, fresh tofu, nothing can beat that. I was always reluctant to try the Mori-nu boxed tofu, but because of a coupon I found on the internet, I thought I'd try it. It took a bit to get used to, but because it is so convenient to have around and I can stock up, we now have grown to rely on it. At least no more throwing out bad tofu.

The Patisserie is next to Starbucks where I think the old Great Harvest was.

The rice container we have is "Best" brand. I tried googling but that brand is no longer being sold, the Sunpentown 26 lb container is the closest to what we have. http://www.veryasia.com/ricedispenser.html
I'm such a bargain shopper, I bought our container at Goodwill for $1.99.

  19. L: Yes, it's the same brand as the one at Costco. The only problem with buying it fresh in Wahiawa is that you have to eat it quickly. I don't think it would last more than 3-4 days. They've told me that it could last a week in the fridge if you carefully change the water each day.

I'll try that Patisserie since it's near my aunt and uncle's house. Thanks for the tip.

  20. OK, sorry for the misunderstanding. Here are 5 objects I bought at stores that I always enjoy:

1-Long muumuus for $60 each at T & L Muumuu Factory. I wear them everywhere, even to the opera or to bed.

2-Corona Beer for $25 at Costco. The best beer ever!

3-Kirkland bottled water for $7 at Costco. Friends tell me it tastes very good, and I agree.

4-SAS sandals for $70 at Macy's. I wear them everywhere as they are very comfortable.

5-Kindle for $136 from Amazon. So easy to order books and very convenient to store in my handbag and to read at the airport or doctor's office.

  21. Make that chocolate Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Nuggets with almonds for me. And Eddie Bauer long and short sleeved tees. And Nike running shoes. Polartec Fleece vests and jackets. GorTex or similar wind and rain jackets. Can you tell it's winter here now?
I like those plastic photo frames you found. My one sides ones sometimes let the photos slip.

  23. I have some Lytle photo frames on my fridge too! But these are the older versions over 10 years old and they still look great.

ooops...to answer where in town they sell these rice containers, I've seen them advertised at Don Quixote. About buying these second hand, the condition was excellent and I figured no one touches the inside of the container so it should be OK. I bought it at the Goodwill Outlet where they sell all containers no
matter the size for $1.99. But it is not someplace I would recommend to anyone...you have to be a dumpster diver to love going there.

  24. Kay, I have no answer for this.

Let me just say that your new header is marvelous.
