We started the day with a delightful brunch with Art's EPA buddy and his wife at the Noyes Street Cafe. That was loads of fun catching up with our family doings. Steve and Linda's daughter once played one of the daughters on the Roseanne shows a long time ago. Maybe it's because Linda was a teacher (high school) that we have always found it easy to chat about anything.
After brunch, we headed to Chicago to have dinner and watch the Super Bowl with Tif, Ed and KC. We were surprised to see that our friends from California, Jean and Mike had sent KC a gorgeous advent calendar wall hanging. I've never seen anything like it! There are adorable buttons for each day, that you remove and slip into buttonholes on the tree. They sent it for KC's next Christmas. Is this thoughtful or what?
We met Jean and Mike when we all took a bike tour through the Netherlands. Jean is also a teacher (for hearing impaired children) and she kept me on my bike all through those days when I would just as soon have jumped into a canal rather than bike another kilometer. Uhhh... this bike trip was definitely Art's idea, not mine. I loved seeing the country and the gorgeous Keukenhof Tulip gardens but...I'd not been on a bike in 30 years and it was a real...uhhhh....challenge. Jean kept me on my bike while Art and Mike went off with the "FAST" group. Jean and I have been e-mail buddies ever since.
Art and Ed are now watching the Super Bowl while Tif does her things and I post this entry. I will now focus my attention on KC who may be feeling a bit neglected. I'm just watching the commercials.

I didn't bicycle, but I have been to the Keukenhof Tulip Gardens during the tulip festival and it was indeed gorgeous! Sounds like you are having so very much fun and I'm so happy for you!

As for your bike story - how funny are you. Yes I would be the same I have to say. And given you havent been on a bike for 30 years you did well. Glad your friend saved you from those horrid canals LOL!

ReplyDeleteI watched to game while I was working on another project. During The Boss's show I started dinner. I watched the last quarter pretty intently, hoping the Cardinals could pull off the win. Alas, they did not, but it was a good game.

ReplyDeleteI think the hoopla about the super bowl is just an excuse to get together with friends and family, so it can be fun even if you don't care about the game.
What action-packed days you are having. You are certainly blessed with many dear friends and how wonderful you can all get together and visit. My husband was on call all day at the hospital so I didn't have to hear the game-yay! I spent the day with my "patient" and finished knitting myself a scarf. I'm sure I will have enough time to wear it for the remainder of winter! The Advent calendar was beautiful and what a gift for KC to treasure forever.

ReplyDeleteI missed not only the game but didn't even catch ONE commercial. I had to work. You could tell the customers who bet on the Cardinals from those who had money on the Steelers. Very different mindset and behavior. Was an interesting night for sure.
