KC loved going to the pool with her daddy and got very brown even with spf 100 sunscreen.

Our bedroom was really luxurious with lots of lovely, complimentary freebies.

We insisted that Tif and Ed go out to a NICE restaurant together and we would babysit KC. I've watched them with KC and I really think it's hard to enjoy fancy cuisine while focusing their attention on an excited, over-tired from the sun, three year old who wants nothing but macaroni and cheese.
After they left, we walked along the ocean to Whaler's Village and had a sunset dinner at Leilani's. What did KC want? Yup! Macaroni and cheese, which she pronounced yummy!

We then happened upon some Tahitian dancers that KC really had fun watching. Some of the dancers looked younger than KC. It was truly impressive.

When Tif and Ed returned, they told us that they'd gone to the #1 restaurant on Maui, the Lahaina Grill. They were absolutely ecstatic. Tif says everything was perfection and no matter how full she was, she just couldn't stop eating because it was so delicious! They felt Lahaina Grill deserves all the accolades it has received over the years. Frankly, I think they enjoyed it even more because they could concentrate on their food to taste and savor it.

This morning, Art and I had a free breakfast in the Concierge Lounge. There were all kinds of beverages, egg frittatas, smoked salmon, an assortment of cheeses, wonderful fruit, cereal, breads, muffins, etc. It was fabulous!
One of the servers guessed that we were the only locals in the lounge and came to talk to us for quite a while. We had such fun!

This is our Ocean View from our room at the top. We could see the island of Lanai in the distance and there was another island as well, but I don't know if it was the Big Island.
It was such a weird feeling to be able to see two islands from outside our sliding doors. Maui is quite close to the islands of Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe. I think you can even see the Big Island.Ed had to return to work this afternoon so we had to bid him a sad farewell. Tif and KC will stay with us on Oahu until Wednesday. My brother and sister-in-law had brought over Tif's favorite guava chiffon cake. Another friend brought banana bread and giant strawberries. Wow!
KC has rediscovered her toy closet and book shelves. Oh... it's wonderful! It was cute to hear KC remember her visit last summer and say, "Mommy, I was here before when I was already a big girl."
I can't even imagine how it must look and feel living in a State of islands. Thanks for the map and your descriptions.
ReplyDeleteYour pics are wonderful and give the mood. You look so cute coloring, Kay. :)
'I was here before when I was already a big girl'
ReplyDelete- how lovely! It's so good you're recording all these precious observations in your blog.
Thanks for changing your comment format, Kay. I hope my comment goes through, now.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your trip to Maui, because it brought back so many fond memories of my travels there. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Kaanapali sometime during the 1980s and were impressed with the artwork there. Not only that but the colorful parrots! Wow!
Because of our finances, I now travel vicariously through you.
what a lovely time and how great you were able to babysit...
ReplyDeleteKay what a lovely time you all are having! Glad Tiff and Ed got to have a lovely meal together-that was nice of you and Art to watch KC while they went out. Love the views from your hotel room!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Kay, I have so enjoyed catching up with your blog. We came back from Seattle a couple of days ago and I am just now trying to get around. Sorry to hear that Tiff cut her head while on vacation. Hope it is healing nicely. Great that you are visiting with your family and I look forward to checking back regularly now that I am home.

ReplyDeletewow-wee. Typo.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have you back home. I always loved Maui; it's my absolute favorite island! There's so much to do and see there, you could never get bored. Welcome home and hope you all enjoy the Guava cake.
ReplyDeletePS...The other island you saw off to the side of Lanai is Molokai.
I've had fun catching up on your family fun! You sound as busy as we are. I had a quiet hour while Jill and Corey took the kids to a playground. Now I've got to start packing again. We're going out to dinner and then we'll go up to the island tonight. That way we'll have all day tomorrow to play.
ReplyDeleteWe're back home, too! I bet our flight was longer than yours! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe had a top floor room and great ocean views. We even had dolphins in the harbor. It was nice to be back in Hawaii.
Such a great post. Love your pics, your family, and your islands. Very impressive.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and luxurious. I've been to Maui twice, once for an AAUW convention and once for the big hike into Haleakala Crater.
ReplyDeleteThat is the Big Island and that's Mauna Kea, the very mountain I live on. Come over and visit sometime!
Thank you for sharing so much with us.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how many kids love mac and cheese? It's the go-to dish for my two youngest granddaughters.
Oh what a beautiful view from your room, and what a lovely looking room. How nice you could have a mini-vacation. How nice you had special time with KC while her parents had some time for themselves. I had to chuckle over the mac and cheese...
ReplyDeleteHi! Its been a while, just here to check up on how you're doing. Btw that is one swanky hotel. I'm coming down to the US of A coming September-New York not Hawaii though.
