It's another long traveling day. We left Sheridan, Wyoming and went to Little Big Horn.From the National Park website:
"This area memorializes the U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne in one of the Indian's last armed efforts to preserve their way of life. Here on June 25 and 26 of 1876, 263 soldiers, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer and attached personnel of the U.S. Army, died fighting several thousand Lakota, and Cheyenne warriors."
It was an overcast, rainy day. However, perhaps it was appropriate for what happened here.
General Custer went to Little Big Horn to attack the Indian village there. He and his men met a terrible end. However, what happened to the Native Americans after that was even more tragic.
I thought the Park Service tried to present a balanced view of the situation from both sides.
Back on the road again, we were on our way to Great Falls, Montana, just outside of Glacier National Park.
It rained almost the entire way.
In one area we had to cross over some flooded roads. That was pretty scary. I was worried the minivan would stall.
We saw a huge windmill farm along the way.
Our hotel in Great Falls was Heritage Inn, Best Western. They had a nice Laundry Room that we made immediate use of. I was so glad we invited our daughter and granddaughter on this trip. Tiffany was an IMMENSE help with driving, trouble shooting and doing all the chores to keep a journey safe and happy.
The Heritage Inn was really a nice hotel. We'd definitely recommend this place.
Tiffany brought this portable airbed for children which was a lifesaver everywhere we stayed. KC tends to roll around when she sleeps which would disturb poor Tif's rest if they slept together. She could also fall off the bed. The airbed was a safer (It has a lip around the edges.), better alternative.
And now... on to Glacier!
So the trip was not all sunshine and light.

ReplyDeleteI have no idea how you can unpack and pack every night. It makes me so tired. I am a terrible tourist, liking to stay in one spot for a week or more and just investigate the local area. I am almost in tears just reading all that you are doing on this trip. We were gone to New Mexico for 5 days, in one hotel room, driving a lot for two days, but still coming back to the same spot. I am still tired.

ReplyDeleteI don't think there was a laundry room at our hotels in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Maybe, I didn't look hard enough. I wonder if there will be one at the Hilton Waikoloa.
Apparently, you folks are fully prepared for traveling. There's more things with planning than just destinations, I guess. Not that I would know, LOL. Especially laundry.
ReplyDeletedkzody: We were in the same hotel in only one place for more than one day and that was the gorgeous place our son-in-law got us. Our vacations are almost never relaxing. It's all meant to be about seeing the most you can in whatever time frame we have. We'll be going on an Alaskan Cruise. My daughter says she hopes we'll like it since it'll be totally unlike anything we've done before.
ReplyDeleteGigi: The airbed is just a toddler size of the grown-up version. It has a little automatic electric pump that blows it up right away.
The weather looks pretty atrocious. Driving on flooded roads is no fun.

ReplyDeleteOh, yes, the rain and the floods. Dreadful, isn't it? I hate driving when that happens here. So glad you were able to get through.
ReplyDeleteThe Alaska cruise will be very relaxing, until you get to Alaska, then it will be the see-all-you-can-see tours with the exception that Art and Tif won't have to do the driving.
Wonderful to have a hotel with a laundry room. You have a wonderful, helpful, beautiful daughter, and her air-bed for KC idea is brilliant.

What a good idea the air bed was. I was glad to see the windmills. We need more of that type of energy.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had no problems with the flooding. They say 6 inches of water moving quickly can be deadly.
My frustration level is too high to do what you are doing. I would be a super grump if I had to pack up and leave every day and then unpack at the end of the day. Toting suitcases makes me irritable and my legs and arms get so bruised. Good thing you are all on the same page for this kind of travel.

You have had quite an interesting trip. That little air bed is great. You will have to write a blog on it so all the grandmas out there can find where to buy one. They look like something every grandma house should have.

ReplyDeleteWe stay in Best Western hotels whenever we can. They are reasonable, comfortable, and include breakfast!
The Little big Horn is one place we haven't been. Looks like we'll have to make another trip. :-)
