Borrowing Books on Kindle

The Hawaii State Library System just upgraded their online library site and it is wonderful!  I'm amazed because frankly the previous format was hard to negotiate.  This is so much easier and there are a ton more books.  I am so impressed.  I love it that it also provides a synopsis of many of the books and a customer rating.  Wow!

Hawaii does not have adequate funding for its library system so I can imagine what kind of fantastic library sites the rest of you have on the mainland.


The only problem I have now is trying to find time to read the books that I download onto my Kindle.

I also found that I can go to my Amazon account to Manage My Kindle and Return books as soon as I finish them.  I can also delete the books that I don't want on my account. 

There's so much to learn, but I'm slowly picking up things as I go along.

    well I have a non fiction book on amazon.com and my author biography under Lin Vernon Floyd but I don't read e-books. No kindle or ipad or etc. I'm behind the times....

    Kay, It's good to hear about borrowing the books. I've considered it but I usually only read books that I like to keep for reference

    My son and grandchildren got this all set up for me and I not only check out books to read, I download audio books from the library. It is wonderful.

    I can't wait for a system like that hits my area. It would be nice to have access to maybe some best sellers as they come out. Other wise, I wait for the price to drop on Kindle and in the meantime read the free books.
    Someday "librarian" may just be a trivia word.

    I can download some book on my Kindle for iPad app, but some are not available except for actual Kindles. It's up to the publisher whether or not they allow it. Mostly I go to the library on line and get "real" books to read and return, which works just fine, too. :-)

      I download to my Kindle and it wirelessly goes into my iPad Kindle and Art's Fire. I love it! It still boggles my mind that I can take a photo on my iPhone and iPad and it wirelessly transfers to my desktop computer. Technology is incredible!

    I am a BIG supporter of the public library. It is a place where our poor can go and use the Internet, check out a book, but I am glad that the library has tried to keep up with technology. I read multiple books at a time and some days do not read at all, so checking out books puts too much pressure on me. Maybe someday.

      Sometimes two or three books that I have on Kindle hold at the library come up for me to borrow and that DOES put pressure on me, too.

    I have been borrowing books from the Kindle Library but have not borrowed for my Kindle from the local library....I will have to look into it. It is sometimes already hard to find time to read all the books I want to read.

      I see that you have to be an Amazon Prime member to borrow from the Kindle library. I'll have to tell my daughter about this. Thank you for letting me know. That's why blogging is so great.

    Our little library in VT lends e-books and it has two Kindle Fires that can go out on loan. I am a faithful library user and volunteer and I am always so amazed at what our one part-time librarian manages to bring to our small town.

      I do have to use my USB wire to transfer the books, but once you know how to do it, it's not bad.

    I haven't touched my Kindle since November. I guess I should learn more about what the libraries offer now.

    I wish our library format was as nice looing as yours. I doubt any library is well funded; ours are not. That said, all the information of the universe is at our fingertips and figuring out how to use it cannot be half the challenge Abe Lincoln encountered reading books.

    Isn't that the way? You borrow some, then find you have too many! I have a few lined up. But hard copy! I don't do kindle!

    I've downloaded a couple of free books onto my Kindle, and Hubby bought me one for Valentine's Day. Everything else has come from the library.

    I am reading a public library ebook right now. But the system is very difficult to navigate. I have to put books on hold, I never know when they will come, then I have just three weeks to get them read. I have not found a way to renew them. The book I'm currently reading was a process to get. As I was on the last day to download it, the library system went down. I called and they siad they would extend the collection time, but when I got on line the book was gone. I finally got it back, but then I had to plug in my Kindle with the USB to my computer and copy the book to my downloads, then my documents and then find a way to send it to the Kindle. All of this goes through Amazon. Some books can only be downloaded by connection, some only by WiFi. All of this makes me just want to buy the d-mn book! But I am loving the book. I'll have to post a review when I'm finished with it.

      To be honest I did have a hard time at first figuring out how to download the book using the USB, but I'm pretty used to it now.

    I have found more free ebooks on amazon than I can find time to read. Lately I've been so burned out I haven't done much else than work and sleep. Funny how when the body is tired the brain shuts down too.

      It's true that there are a lot of free books available on Amazon, but I do like to read the current popular authors also which I can borrow from the library. Art likes science fiction and it's hard to find very good free ones on Amazon.

    OUr county has a lending library, and one of these days, I will check it out. I am sure it is state of the art, based on folks I have talked to around the neighborhood. Our county also boasts WIFI stations, one near our home at a major intersection. What in the world would we do if we didn't have electronics?

    Meanwhile, I am loving my Kindle and its Whispernet and feel virtuous for saving trees. Dianne
