Enders Game (Art saw this one. It's science fiction and he said it was good.)

Saving Mr. Banks (They couldn't have made P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins into a more irritating lady. Walt Disney was an angel, of course.)
Hunger Games 2: Catching Fire (Pretty good)
The Odd Life of Timothy Green (The perfect sort of son, even though he's a plant.)
Perks of Being a Wallflower (I found this really interesting and the actors did a great job.)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Poor Art didn't get to see the end of this because the plane landed. I told him it didn't matter because the end left you hanging anyway.)
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Art watched this.)
I found all the movies wonderful, but you know what I found entertaining on our never-ending flights? I really enjoyed Frozen. Was it the music? The Odd Life of Timothy Green didn't get good reviews and was far fetched and rather a silly idea perhaps, but I liked it and so did Art.
I can tell you one thing. I think I saw every movie I'd been planning to see in 2013 and never got around to seeing. Now I know why these flights are sometimes called Red-Eye flights.
What was your favorite movie last year or even this year so far?
The last time I took a really long flight was in 2005 when we went to China. The San Francisco-to-Beijing leg was on Air China the the movies played on a large screen in the front on the plane. They were in Chinese and not even closed captioned!
ReplyDeleteI will eventually fall into some sort of sleep state on those long flights, and wake up with a stiff neck. Always. I saw all of those movies except the last three you mentioned. I enjoyed all the others very much. Oh, I didn't see Frozen, come to think of it. It's on my list, since everybody tells me it is really good. I want to see Malificent, I've heard it's very good. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see Malificent too. I hear that Jolie and Pitt's daughter, Vivienne plays the part of little Princess Aurora because she was one of the few children who could act without being afraid of Jolie in her Malificent costume.
DeleteI've only seen a few of these but I especially liked Philomena and Frozen. Like you I can't sleep very well on airplanes and always appreciate having a movie to watch.

DeleteWhat did you think of the SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY? I was told not to waste my time. I recently saw BLENDED at the theater and it was cute. Last night I watched LONE SURVIVOR on Dish PPV. Very emotional and painful to watch. Loved PHILOMENA and CAPTAIN PHILLIPS plus SAVING MR. BANKS.

ReplyDeleteI do not like watchng blockbuster movies or beautiful costume dramas with scenery on a plane or small screen. I have to see them at the theater, so I would have been unhappy seeing some of these in an airplane seat...but I really do not like the confinement of lone flights and find them endurance tests.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a lot of watching. Gosh, let Art see the end of "Smaug," it's good. "Heaven is For Real" was really good. "Le Weekend" was useless. "Belle" was good and historically based; no yucky people-getting-beaten scenes either. Everyone says to go see "Frozen" and all the kids are singing the tunes. Nymphomaniac, Part 1 and 2, was good, but more of a psych film than racy. It has two surprise endings at the end of Part 2. Not a flick to watch with a parent. "Blended" was cute because I love the actors, and more believable than the Brady Bunch, with Africa scenes, but corny in spots. "The Dallas Buyers Club" is good for it's history and the acting. What would make the bonsai trees happy?

I don't see any movies usually, except we went to see Hunger Games on a pair of movie passes. I enjoyed it although husband thought the movie was "for kids" (the younger set). On red eye flights, I gradually fall asleep for a short nap though the seats are usually so uncomfortable that it prevents me from sleeping for longer periods. I have a problem sleeping longer than 4-5 hours straight at home these days so maybe it's because I'm getting older and sleeping less.

ReplyDelete41 years of marriage, I am Mary from the pacific northwest just celebrated our 40th on may 27, 2014..time flies very fast we were married las vegas at a Lutheran church, used the flowers from the memorial day service, people who were in that church for years served as our attendants, my only brother had a feast for us in a wonderful hotel on the strip it is gone now..Sands I believe, not everyone who married in Vegas gets a divorce, we lived in Colorado for many years and back to the pacific northwest..I love your blogs, how wonderful to enjoy a feast in a temple area without anyone talking and the silence must have been peaceful have a most wonderful weekend, caio!
