Good friends from California came to visit us last week. Unfortunately, this is the rainy season and they were greeted with this.
The forecast for the whole week they would be in Hawaii was rain.
So much for the hikes we were going to be taking.
Let's see... There's the Iolani Palace, the Honolulu Museum of Arts, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Bishop Museum for Hawaiiana, Waikiki Aquarium, ummmm.... what else?
On the other hand, we bought tickets to go to Seattle and Vancouver in spring so mom could see the tulips and cherry blossoms. I'm hearing from Northwest friends that tulips are already threatening to pop out of the ground. Arrrrghhhh!
Mother Nature is just not willing to cooperate this year. Traveling is always a gamble.
POSTSCRIPT: Sure enough! The forecasts were wrong. Our guests have had wonderfully perfect weather with lovely sunshine the entire time. You can just never tell.

A blog friend we both know came here from Canada in May. She and her family were dining at a luau when it started to rain. The hotel staff had to give everyone a towel to place on their heads.
ReplyDeleteOh Gigi I remember that! We can laugh now, but funny no refunds are offered, we watched the luau in soaking rain. Many guests left. At least it wasn't cold.

Even winter in Hawaii, isn't too bad. I missed the cold, however.

ReplyDeletei was so very excited the first time i went to hawaii. the day i arrived there was a tropical storm that lasted for my entire trip. buckets of water fell constantly. i never saw the sun once. i did drink a lot of tropical drinks though. fortunately, every other time i went i had wonderful weather.
ReplyDeleteFor me it would be a real bummer to go to Hawaii and have it rain. When I've been there it's rarely rained.

ReplyDeleteOh, good, the rain stopped. Here too. It is 60 ° in the afternoons, and the first plum trees are getting ready to bloom.
ReplyDeleteI hope there will still be tulips when you come, but I do know it is almost impossible to recapture the magic of a first visit anywhere. There is always something to enjoy, though.
I hope you will consider the Chihuly Glass Museum and Garden when you are in Seattle. It is located at the foot of the Space Needle. And Kubota Gardens should be on your list. We offer tour services. :-)
We will definitely make a visit to the Chihuly Glass Museum. It was closed the last time we passed through. I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the tulips. I hope something is blooming.

ReplyDeleteYou were lucky. When my kids were in Tel Aviv last week, we had dust storms, gale force wind near the sea, driving rain, and even hail for most of their six days.
