Stepping Forward With Smooth Heels

One of the things I learned at the Diabetic Workshop I attended was how to care for my feet. They said that diabetes does often affect the feet causing pain and nerve damage. One of the possible conditions is dry, cracked, bleeding feet.

I've had that. My heels and sides of the feet were often dry and peeling. There have been times when it even bled which was no fun at all and painful to walk on.

The diabetics nurse counselor advised us to use a pumice stone while in the shower since our feet would have been soaking and the skin would be softer. After the shower, she said to carefully dry our feet and apply Vaseline or lotion. I used Eucerin.

I did it and was amazed that within a few days this is what my feet looked like. Not a crack in sight! And it's smooth. I mean.... really, really smooth.

You know I'm running out of blog posts when I start writing about my feet.

  7. The advice about taking care of your feet is good advice. I am pre-diabetic, but I have a lot of neuropathy in my feet. You did a good thing by writing this post. I wish I could keep up with reading your posts. I can only dream of actually writing all the posts that you do. Take care of those feet.

  8. Nice feet! It's a relief to find something that improves things. Problems with feet can cause other problems...like being less active.

  11. I have been fighting a reoccurring corn on the edge of my foot, not that painful but bothersome. I have heard of pumice stones for feet, but I thought calluses were protective? I do know foot health is super important for diabetics.

  12. I had a pedicure on Monday...for the first time and I really enjoyed that. It took 40 minutes and she massaged my legs and feet and used a pumice stone to smoooth up my feet. I highly recommend it!

  13. I have always taken very good care of my feet, probably because it's so hard for me to buy shoes. Since my shoes cost a small fortune I can't imagine putting dry crusty feet into them. The toes & feet are one of the first places diabetics get in trouble.

  15. I think sharing about foot care with diabetes or otherwise is important. My mother impressed on me as a child I should always take good care of my feet -- never buy cheap shoes, or wear shoes that aren't comfortable. Consider how much time out of each day you spend on your feet -- important they stay healthy so can last a long time, she said.

  16. I was advised against using pumice stone or other abrasives on my feet. Your feet need to have some callus to protect them. I scrub my feet and toes with a brush every day. My feet don't look all that great, but they never hurt. They don't get dry, I guess because of the humid climate here.

  17. oh Kay
now having some difficulty with feet
never in my lifetime and much changing at 80.
Years ago thought I had just sprained my ankle from doing a lot of planting in garden.
Seems when I finally went to doctor months later I had fractured part of my foot.
So now since ankle is slightly crooked it has affected my balance and callous's form easily. But soak my feet several times a week that helps the callous's and use
a special file on them To think many years of no problem, loving stylish shoes
but the last 10 years having a problem - but know it could be worse and I made a bad
decision and caused this. Now wear a special insert in my shoe...
