Hawaiian Airlines has always been touted as the ON TIME Airline. And yes, when we've flown Hawaiian to California and even Australia they leave and arrive when they say they will or a little earlier.
However, our trip to California a couple of weeks ago was delayed due to a downpour. The flights coming in from the neighboring islands making the connection onto our flight were delayed so we left 20 minutes late.
The flight attendants were all very professional, warm and friendly.
Hawaiian Airlines might be the only airline that serves meals now unless you're flying to a foreign country. And having those complimentary meals are really helpful. I had snacks in my backpack on the way to California and never ate them.
I really enjoyed the breakfast on the way to California. The lunch on the way home was just OK. But it was complimentary!
They also offered a FREE Mai Tai on the way to LAX and a glass of wine with our meal on the way home to Hawaii which we declined. If Mom was with us you can bet she would have taken both.
On the other hand, you do have to pay $10 for a blanket and pillow which I didn't need. It was warm enough. There was a lady across the aisle from us who actually took off her shirt and sat with just a halter type top. That was a surprise.
Ummm... and entertainment? You have to pay for that too. No free movies. Good thing my son-in-law had installed movies on my laptop for us.
Ah well, I guess you can't have everything, but what we had was good enough.

Sounds good to me! American Airlines gives you nothing! I wanted to check all three bags when I came home from Florida in January and they wanted $200 to do that. I declined, put my laptop bag in my large suitcase and carried on my carry on. What a trip!.
ReplyDeleteAir travel is not a regular thing for me but I hear all kinds of horror stories. It sounds like Hawaiian Airlines is wonderful compared to most.

ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting that airlines are now nickle and dimeing us to death. Not looking forward to a number of flights I will be taking this year, while I am looking forward to getting there.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last meal I had on an airplane-probably flying to Japan in 2003 to pick up my son off his mission. Eating while flying used to be my favorite thing but now it's bring your own...

ReplyDeleteTravelers seem to want pared down travel, without the perks, to a lowered cost. It's not cheap paying for all the net costs. It's quite a change.

ReplyDeleteI only fly Hawaiian Airlines because of their great mileage program - being able to share miles with the kids for free (now only if they have a HawaiianMiles Mastercard - junk!), and being able to easily use miles for upgrades.
ReplyDeleteI used to be able to book roundtrip to Vegas for under $300, but now, they want over double! I don't understand how they jacked up the price when the cost of fuel came down.
Ah well, it has me as a captive customer, though I wish Southwest Airlines or Virgin America would start up non stop service to Vegas and give them some competition.
I don't fly but if I did, a little wine would really help. From what I've heard, those are nice perks that Hawaiian offers. Actually the half naked lady was free for men's entertainment and the women's judgement:))
