I now subscribe to theSkimm which condenses the daily news for "busy" working people. I might be retired, but I often find it fun to read this Cliff's Notes version of the news.
Here's what they wrote:
"President Trump is mad, saying all this Russian business is “fake news” made up by the Democrats. Dems are mad, saying Comey’s been unfairly tight-lipped given how many headlines he made about the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails just before the election. Republicans are mad because they want to know who’s been leaking info to the press."
theSkimm should also have mentioned that the FBI knew about Russia meddling in the U.S. election process since July, 2016 and seemed to be in no hurry to make a big deal of it like they did about Hillary's email NONnews just a few days before the election!
I know #45's approval ratings are now down to 37% which is supposed to be the lowest of any president in the last 70 years by March of their first term. What I don't understand is why it's even that high.

Art thinks it's hilarious because I've never actually paid close attention to politics before and now I'm actually taking time to read about it in the morning paper.
We know and love some #45 supporters because they are friends and members of our family. I just wish I understood better why and how they could think who they voted for is good for this country. Unfortunately we can't really talk about it because we don't want to burst their bubble and don't want them to burst ours either, not that I think they could.
So I guess we'll have to wait until they see how the environment is being polluted by the coal ash that's now being allowed to be dumped into streams. They'll see what happens now that oversight regulations to protect consumers have been removed over Wall Street after the financial crisis they caused in 2008-09. They're already starting to understand what will actually happen if the ACA/Obamacare is replaced by Ryan/TrumpCare. Meals on Wheels that Art volunteers for is going to be affected but many don't care because they're not poor or elderly or disadvantaged. Sigh...
I understand some bubbles are already starting to deflate in those red states that supported #45. I don't know what took so long.
OK... that's it! I'll stop my rant. Back to regular programming tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteI've been stunned at the number of educated (nurses/docs) along with beloved midwestern rednecks who support #45, no matter what he does. One friend acknowledges things are getting messed up, but that's just because "he just has to get settled into office and learn how things run..." Sigh!
I've been in tears twice while watching #45 deteriorate the presidency and country. His arrogance and ignorance of what he can and can't do "on verbal/Twitter demand" is appalling and shameful. I think leaders of other countries know that there is somehow a lunatic in the White House. Haven't been able to trust a word he says ever. Certainly makes Nixon look less paranoid. I miss Camelot, Obama, a balanced, civil Congress, and good leadership.
In order to keep my ulcers at bay, I too, look over several news sites. TheSkimm looks interesting to condense the continual onslaught of garbage dumped from the White House. I've left jobs due to keeping my ethics and standard. Too bad Spicer has lost all ethics, but even if he left, someone else would be the unethical press secretary.
I google "political cartoons" daily and review the options to get some bit of humor for surviving the current situation....I hope it's only for 4 years or less via impeachment.

I find that the evening news could turn my stomach as I eat dinner because the first aggravating stories are about #45. I'm hoping for a quick impeachment too.

ReplyDeleteI am with you, Kay. I read every day whatever I can stomach about the news, which is constantly about #45. And then I go to a yoga class or watch a movie. BTW, Watch the Netflix movie "The Great Gilly Hopkins" for an uplift. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have avoided writing this because I think it would just make me feel better and not convince those on the "other" side. We cannot convince Trump supporters as they have already said they do not care that over 300 significant lies have been identified in his statements, as they believe all politicians lie and that in some secret world he is on their side. A Trump supporter interviewed yesterday about the fact that the FBI is investigating his staff in their ties to Russia that has tried to undermine our Democracy and she said it did not concern her because at least Hillary was not elected! Their hatred of the inaccurate image portrayed of HC is bigger than their love of this country. But as I have friends that are Trump supporters I cannot argue them out of it.

ReplyDeleteTabor is right, you cannot change people's minds, however, you can listen to their side of the story. I have been talking and reading as much as I can so as figure this out. I hate not knowing why people are the way they are. I've boiled the trumpsters down to a couple of points from what I've read and heard: they are afraid, they feel unsafe in their own country and think trump is their safety net. Two, they do not want their "hard-earned money" (their words, not mine), going to immigrants and poor people who they believe have not done the right things. Again, their belief is that trump is a businessman who won't allow such bad use of "their" money.
ReplyDeleteI feel quite safe in this country, or did until trump started rattling sabers with North Korea and treating Germany like the enemy. Now I have a reason to be scared.
I also live in abundance, not great wealth, but I have plenty and believe I should share with others, no matter who or how they got into the situation where they need help. Children, old people, immigrants, they all need our assistance. Why are we unwilling to help them?
You are safer now than you were ever under the Obama regime. President Trump will go down as the greatest president we have ever had if given half a chance. But with the media, Hollywood, the Democrats, the establishment Republicans fighting to keep their piece of the pie, he has a HUGE job ahead of him to crack the status quo. I am surprised that people who should know better have such horrible things to say about him. I pray for President Trump every day that he will be protected and successful in changing things in Washington which really is a swamp. It is will hard to pry power and money out of the hands of those who have been in power for so long.
DeleteAnother part of the problem is the loss of real journalism in this country, coupled with losing analytical thinking taught in public schools. There are new Walter Cronkites, but they are voices in the "news" babble. We must resist, protest, and start turning the tide a year from November.
ReplyDeleteI used to pay vastly more attention to politics, but to preserve my sense of humor and sanity I Skim. I should subscribe too. In addition to the three major news networks, I read the Washington post, the BBC, and the Huffington Post. I must confess, when images of 45 come on, I must turn off the sound. lol Right now I am selfishly recovering from everything. :)

ReplyDeleteSome yahoos or yahoo ran a car into a crowd on Westminster bridge in London and attacked a member of the Commons and a guard, of course they shot the yahooooo! Wow the happenings in Europe are awful innoncent people getting killed and hurt by you know whooooo ISIS..the new president cannot say much about it at all even though some yahoos jump the fence and try to get to him now like never ever before..He will not stay the course is what I figure and a big embarrassment to our great country..His kids want to cash into with Ivanka a white house office and of course secret service..Must be somebody out of this world to be married to no less his ex-wife Ivana writing a book about her kids with a subplot of what it was like to be a single mother with a man who philandered a lot..Oh, my living God..I cannot read the newspapers make me sick, so we walk hubs and I and get to the shore and to the eastern part of Washington and visit childhood friends!
ReplyDeleteSigh... I know. The cost to taxpayers for secret service protection for Melania Trump so their son can attend an elite school in NY is far, far more than what they are cutting out of programs like Meals on Wheels for the disadvantaged or handicapped.

The only encouragement I am feeling these days is seeing this administration implode as it is collapsing in upon itself even quicker than I had hoped. Let's hope the trend continues. I have faith that the majority of the people will prevail.
ReplyDeleteI honestly believe 45 and his cohorts (including more than a few of my friends and family)...are a large reason for my current health issues/stress level. I'm doing my best to hide out from most of it, because I have read enough these past 4-5 months to know that there are PLENTY of good souls fighting the good fight so that old, easily riled up old biddies like me don't have to. ;)

What's frightening is that (darn it, I hate saying his name) you know who and his cohorts have never been in financial need; they refuse to recognize that there are people out there who can't afford full meals for their family, or that there are seniors living on the edge who are unable to prepare their own meals. They don't know what it's like to be hungry, to be sick and unable to afford medicine . . . all the things that so many people have to survive. Rant on, cuz!

DeleteLast night, Trevor Noah showed all these clips he said over and over and over that if and when he's president he would NEVER play golf like President Obama who was wasting too much time at the golf course. And now we see that #45 is going to his golf course EVERY weekend.
Yeah, and Obama and Michelle did. eating their lobster and vacationing on Martha's Vineyard.
DeleteThe point is that like all the other lies he told during the campaign, this was another one that #45 told. President Obama did not lie about this. And he did not wiretap #45 as he was accused by #45 which is now verified.

ReplyDeleteWe are watching Rachael Maddow and cheering her on as she and her staff keep digging deeper and deeper into Russia Gate. The Wall Street Journal published a damning editorial on #45. Most fact based journalists are calling out his lies. It's not looking good for his presidency, or our future either.

ReplyDeleteI don't live in any bubble. I am very aware of what the politicians have done to us in the past and that is exactly why President Trump was elected. I am glad he is our president. So glad, I rest easy at night. Something I didn't do for the last eight years as Obama allowed more and more illegals into our country and brought in muslim refugees and placed them strategically around the United States. I have never slept better and I can't wait to see what President Trump does to shake up the old establishment in Washington. Just because we are older doesn't mean we need to stay in the same old rut as a country.

I can't believe you feel so strongly against Muslim people and even more shocked that you think President Obama would "place them strategically around the U.S." However, I will thank you for your comment and that you have stated your thoughts politely. DeleteHave to say I also wondered since it came out that the FBI was so ready to spill all about Hillary and yet knew this info about the other side and didn't say a word. It is all very puzzling and in itself quite condemning.
