I've written before about how I dilute my shampoo to be economical and to make them easier to bubble up. Here is something else that Art insisted I should try doing.
Friends had given us foaming soap this past Christmas and they ran out rather quickly. I wash my hands all the time.
Art insisted that if I put about 1/4 to 1/3 soft soap and then add water, it would foam up nicely.
I know he'd been doing this at his bathroom sink for a while so for the sake of a blog post, I thought I'd try it.
I added the Softsoap (Costco refill) into the soap foam bottle (about a third of the way) and then filled it with water. I may have added a bit too much Softsoap.
Whatever the case, it worked beautifully! I now have lots of foaming soap ready for me to use!
And yes, I had to listen to Art saying, "I told you so."

I heard about this and have been using it successfully as well. Why pay extra for water in your soap, right?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Art is smart. My husband was like that - able to figure out the simple solutions so easily.
ReplyDeleteIs the costco soap a foaming soap or a regular one that became foaming after adding the water? I love my foaming soap but it doesn't come in the scent I love......BB
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I put dish soap and water into a spray bottle and spray a few odds and ends dishes that are not going into the dishwasher or things that I just want to wash right away. I then rinse with warmest water.

ReplyDeleteI fill my old foaming soap bottle with Dawn dishwashing soap. It cleans up birds that get caught in oil and it works wonderfully as hand soap when you put some in the bottle and then fill the bottle up with water.
ReplyDeleteWell, first, I'll have to buy another foaming bottle, since I threw away any I had. I hadn't thought of it being a way to use less soap. My little soft soap bottles are pretty cheap already.

ReplyDeleteI've been doing this for several years now. Initially, I wondered if it was as effective at cleaning your hands as using straight liquid soap, but learned that it works because the foam has more surface area so you are able to use less. I like to use Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap in the almond scent. Compared to other liquid soaps, it can be a little expensive, but it's much more reasonable when I stretch it out by using the foaming dispensers. I also noticed that the liquid in the dispenser bottle looked cloudy after a while; I googled it and read that using distilled water keeps it nice and clear. It works!
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing - I also dilute Dawn dishwashing detergent in a foamy bottle. I use this to kill ants on contact! We occasionally have an ant problem, and Dawn kills them instantly. I used to use the detergent straight (apply with a Q-tip or use a disposable food-service glove to dab on), but a little squirt of foam does the trick. Much easier to clean up because the detergent is diluted. Also, I feel more comfortable with using Dawn rather than something more toxic like an insecticide or boric acid.
