Does Amazon Always Have the Best Price?

I have had a Kindle Paperwhite for several years now and have taken it everywhere with me. I started out with a regular Kindle and moved on to the lighter Paperwhite after a while. I have loved it. I use the bigger font so that I don't need to wear my reading glasses when I read it bed.

Well... my Paperwhite (Generation 2) is getting sluggish lately. The pages don't swipe quickly to the next and doesn't turn on easily either.

Art insisted that I go ahead and get the newest Paperwhite (Generation 10). So I did and it arrived quickly. Yay! However, I'd rather not start using it until I get a cover for it.

I had the hardest time finding a cover I liked on Amazon. I've gotten pretty used to just getting things on Amazon assuming that it would give me the cheapest price.

However, this time I thought I'd just check out some other websites.

What a surprise to find the same Paperwhite cover on Walmart.

It was $17.99 at Amazon and $9.99 from Walmart which they listed as originally $24.99.

Yup.

I ordered it from Walmart. It's taught me that I need to really look around (the Web) before purchasing anything and not take things for granted.

Art and I used to always go to several stores before locating where we would find the best price. Nowadays, you can let your fingers do the walking.

Isn't it amazing?

  1. Quite a difference. But I guess its appeal, to me anyway, is that it so convenient with great shipping and so on.

    1. I was surprised that Walmart had free shipping to Hawaii. That was really nice. The free shipping is why I always went with Amazon before.

  2. I think I have seen an app for that. I tend to be an impulse buyer -- see something I am looking for and just buy it. My friend Don is encouraging me to break that "Bad habit." So far I am to the point of considering a purchase, mentioning it to him, and waiting for him to give me his comprehensive research and the best price. Works for me! He has saved me money.

  3. yep walmart has everything and is starting to sell it's own products everything from milk to pizza to whatever at a lower price and offering less choices. They could take over the world soon...

  4. It takes effort to compare prices. I wonder how many people do it.I check the cashier's slip for groceries. I see very few people check cash register slips.

  6. That is quite a price difference. I would never have thought to look else where for a Kindle cover since it is an Amazon product. Thanks. Now I will look around a bit before hitting purchase. .

    1. So far... I haven't noticed much difference. It's supposed to be water proof (resistant), but I don't go to pools or the beach, so it doesn't matter to me.

  10. Since I buy everything with my Amazon Rewards credit card, I just go to Amazon because I can get all the small stuff free. Price comparing is a good thing, but it usually loses out to convenience for me.

  11. No Amazon doesn't, I needed a printer and ordered it from Amazon, then went to Walmart and found they had an even better one with more features for $4 more. Needless to say I kept the original one too long so i couldn't return it. I find Walmart can be cheaper than Amazon at times so I prefer to go there, then 2nd choice is Amazon. After all I rather have it NOW. Also I like asian themed covers so my phone and Kindle I bought it at Ebay way way cheaper but then I know you don't like China made stuff but their things are so much cheaper than others. I buy gorgeous blinged out dog collars so much cheaper -BB

    1. Ummm... Actually I’m sure my covers were made in China. I prefer not to buy food items from China, but let’s face it, it seems most things are made in China these days. I understand prices will be going up at the end of the year because of the trade war. I was surprised that Walmart is doing free shipping to Hawaii. When did that start?

    2. Walmart actually charges quite a bit for shipping unless you order order a certain amount of dollars. (eg: over $49.99) There are some items that are shipped from a third company that Walmart carries that does, however, ship for free. Your cover falls into the latter category.

    3. That's what I thought which is why I was surprised that shipping was free even though my item was just under $10!
