Mom has been staring at her budless orchid plants for a while and thinking they are just too much work to keep up.
"They have to be transplanted," she sighed. "It's too hard for me to do anymore. The fertilizer is too expensive. And I would need more fern fiber...."
"Sure," I said. "You should just give them away." I was rather relieved.
The orchids must have heard that she would be giving up on them.
All of a sudden, one day, they decided to show their colors.
You can see new spikes shooting out of those dormant plants.
Sigh...
"And can you help me repot them?" she asked Art.
Notice she didn't ask my brown thumb. She knows me better.
Hope springs -- at least for Mom. :)

ReplyDeleteAww, the flowers are returning their joy after she worked so many years with them. If they need repotting, maybe that's why they delayed their buds. Have fun helping her with the adventure. I just cut the frozen canes from my outdoor hardy hibiscus. They always come back in the late spring. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteMy live-in Mother-in-law comes from a tropical asian country where growing orchids doesn't require anything. They are everywhere and thrive. Here in the middle of the U.S., she is forever buying orchids on sale at the grocery store and bringing them home where they suffer a slow death in our winter dry air. I've got a stack of former orchid pots in the garage to show for her efforts.
