One of my teacher friends sent our chat group an incredulous message that she saw a Harris poll indicating 62% of Americans think Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if Trump were president. 85% of Republicans and 38% Democrats think this! They think Putin sensed a weakness in Biden. 41% felt it wasn't what contributed to Putin's aggression. New York Post is just one of the websites that reported it.
Did they forget that Trump is the one who wanted Putin to be part of the G7?
Did they forget that Trump wanted to leave NATO?
Have they seen how Trump called Putin a genius about invading Ukraine and is very cozy with him and other dictators?
I'm seeing the horrific photos coming out of Ukraine and my heart weeps for them. Just imagine if this was happening in the U.S. Imagine if you were Ukrainian hiding in the subway station with few bathrooms, water or other supplies. Imagine the terror of knowing a megalomaniac was wanting to come in and destroy your country and put you under his dictatorship.
I'm remembering the poem by John Donne, No Man Is An Island.
No man is an island entire of itself; every manis a piece of the continent, a part of the main;if a clod be washed away by the sea,Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were,as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were;any man's death diminishes me,because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls;it tolls for thee.
Putin would have invaded with tRump's blessing if he were president. What is wrong with Americans for thinking that it's Biden's fault? I too wonder if it can't happen here.
ReplyDeleteI am daily amazed at how many people actually think Trump is a "stable genius". "A megalomaniac was wanting to come in and destroy your country and put you under his dictatorship". Wasn't that exactly what Trump was trying to do to us as president? Lord help us all if he gets back in.
ReplyDeleteIt IS madness, thanks for posting this Kay--I appreciate what Marcia and Arkansas Patti said too 👍👍👍!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is all so horrible.
ReplyDeleteThis is a terrible situation, exasperated by that awful man.
ReplyDeleteMost Trump voters prefer a strong leader and consider Putin a stronger leader than Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteIt's unreal how others try to explain away that Putin's invasion is Biden's fault. Putin is far worse than Hitler. I'm sure the Russian troops aren't being treated well nor fed well either. The world has gone mad. It's all very sad.
ReplyDeleteIt may not help much, but a Wichita, KS liquor store is no longer selling Russian vodka, or brands with the Russian logo on it. Reportedly he poured it all out; around $3,000 of inventory. That's a little step above helpless.

Wow, 62 percent is too high a number to believe. I looked up the Harris poll but did not see that number or the topic. My thinking with Trump supporters is some that voted that way aren't real Trump believers; they are just Republican party line fanatics. So where would you get 62 percent. Frankly, I live where so many are on the Trump train. It is hard to comprehend. I believe Trump would sell us all down the river.

ReplyDeleteThis is the New York post about that poll.

This is the Guardian.
I've just added the link to my post. Thank you for the suggestion, Ann.
It's a very stressful time and not even near the action.
ReplyDeleteIn an era when we have incredible access to information, the masses wallow in willful ignorance. It is so disheartening. Proof that we are mere apes, I guess, but it doesn't make me happy.
ReplyDeleteHe is only a "stable genius" if you are speaking of the biggest, stuck to the floor t*rd in the stable.
ReplyDeleteit is so sad, only prayers can stop this and good people supporting the country of ukraine.
ReplyDeleteI stand with Ukraine and may their flag fly over their lands in freedom. My heart is breaking.
ReplyDeleteIt still never fails to shock me how so many can continue to embrace Trump as a leader. Evidence seems to show that as President, Trump would have cheered Putin on from the Oval Office. They are both megalomaniacs.
ReplyDeleteI mourn for the people of Ukraine.
It is just sickening. Our country is dominated by fools. I don’t understand. How can people be so hard hearted and just plain stupid.
ReplyDeleteWe need to come to grips with Trump's new world order until we learn how to set it right.
ReplyDeleteSo do you think Putin sensed a weakness in Obama when he invaded Ukraine in 2014? I don’t read much into those sorts of polls. Russia probably had all sorts of back room deals with Trump and the reason Putin didn’t invade during Trump’s presidency.
ReplyDeleteThank ypu for this. Londoners must ahve felt like this during the blitz.
ReplyDeleteIt's awful out there. I just don't know how it will end. I am not hopeful.
