OK. We did it. We got our 2nd booster shots a few weeks ago.
We took Mom to Kaiser and she got her 4th Pfizer shot. She was totally fine with no aftereffects. Mom said the nurse was really wonderful and it didn't hurt at all. The Kaiser staff were super friendly and efficient.
After taking mom home we went to Longs (CVS) and got Moderna boosters. Our first two COVID-19 vaccinations were Pfizer. We wanted to mix it up for the 1st booster and opted for Moderna. Art did not get any reaction, but I was quite tired for a day or two.
Since we're going to be on a trip later, we were very grateful that the CDC approved the 2nd booster for us.
It's interesting that the Moderna booster was readily available at several Longs stores. The Pfizer would require us to travel so we opted to stick with the Moderna half dose.
It all went off nicely. I chose my right arm for the shot this time instead of my usual left. I swear I felt it more. It wasn't very painful and it was quick. However, I think I'll choose my left arm if we do this again in fall.
I've got my fingers and toes crossed that we'll see the back end of COVID this year.
POSTSCRIPT:
We were exhausted the following day and I had a low grade fever. Art took a nap in the afternoon and felt better. It took me another day to feel normal.

My husband and I will be getting our 2nd Moderna boosters in early June, I believe. My husband never gets much of a problem from
ReplyDeletethe Moderna, but on my booster I had a different very minor symptom each day for three days waking up normal on the fourth day. I started with a low fever, but enough to make me feel tired and a little crummy, one day a sore throat, one day my eyes were watering and burning. Another day every place where I have arthritis was aching like crazy and I had a bad headache. I thought at the time if this is how I react to the vaccination, imagine how bad I would feel with the real live virus!
This is interesting, I scheduled my second booster for this Wednesday at Rite-Aid and they too only have Moderna. I saw the Johnson vaccine was on the news again last night, now they're telling everyone (not just women) to avoid it!
ReplyDeleteWe got pfizer yesterday it is only for 60 plus here in Canada right now
ReplyDeleteWe went to Rite Aide in VT where we got our booster but all they had was Pfizer. Reaction? Just felt like a truck hit me the night of shot but fine the next day. We are still nervous about traveling out of the country. Spoke to someone this week who went to Italy at Christmas, tested positive for Covid and had to delay flight home. Each new strain seems to be more contagious. We may try driving into Canada but no flying on the horizon.
ReplyDeleteI had the same side effects from my second booster but only lasted a day.
ReplyDeleteMy second Pfizer booster was only a sore arm and a little tiredness. Glad you are all boosted!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got your second booster but sorry you had a reaction. I got it in my dominent arm this time for I use it more and seems to reduce the soreness.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't gotten the second booster yet... but will eventually. Since the first 3 were Pfizer, I imagine we'll get Pfizer again.
ReplyDeleteIt's old Lin Floyd Anonymous can't find me...we are putting off our second booster with Pfizer till we see what's coming next????
ReplyDeleteI got 3 Pfizers and one Moderna. The third Pfizer knocked me for a loop but the others were OK. Hoping that the 4th dose protects us on our trips. That's the only reason I got it.
ReplyDeleteI keep asking the same question: Will it ever end? When the first vaccinations came out I thought that would end the whole covid thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had it done too.
ReplyDeleteI still need to schedule my first booster shot
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Adam, even though you're a "youngster" go get that first booster! It has proven to be very effective. Your family and your blog buddies would like you to stick around! Linda in Kansas
DeleteWell done.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had a reaction to the booster ...
ReplyDeleteTake care.
All the best Jan
I'm glad you are all boosted and good to go,
ReplyDeleteI've had one booster and will ask my doctor about a second when I see her, soon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had my second booster shot. I probably ought to look into it..
ReplyDeleteHi Kay. Had my second booster on Friday. It was Pfizer. I had a repeat of sore spot on my arm the day of vacinnation. The next afternoon I needed a short nap. I registered with VSafe when I received my initial shots, so I updated my records and the send a short text survey for how you are doing with some symptoms to pick if you have any. Good to hear that your Mom is doing well. Infections are on the uptick where I live. Brunch this Sunday has been canceled as a small child has tested positive. I think he is still to young to get vacinnated. They also have a two month old. The mom is a nurse, so she has some working experience. There is still a lot to be wary of. So take care.

Hi M in NC! This is Kay of Musings still having to be Anonymous. I’m so glad you got boosted. Our numbers here in Hawaii are climbing but I do see a few more people going maskless. They must someone feel safe despite knowing the numbers are climbing and there are more deaths again. Generally speaking, I’m noticing local people seem to stay masked.
DeleteWe don’t seem to get much of a reaction with Pfizer which is surprising since Moderna is a half dose. I wonder if that means it’s more powerful. Mom had no reaction whatsoever with Pfizer vaccination and booster except for an achey arm for a day or so. I’m so glad you’re staying safe.
Hi Kay, replying from a computer instead of my phone , so there is hope the spelling/grammar will be better. I had multiple reasons for getting the 2nd booster. First, common sense; I live alone and even though I have a brother, he is not a nurse. Two, I know I have to start getting out. I have had to go to meetings at the local government offices over the course of the pandemic. They have spacing and appointments, but they have recently removed the plastic shields and workers are not wearing masks. Ironically, the CDC keeps this county on their med spread list. Wonder why?
DeleteI have received some invites, and I have decided if they are reasonable, I need to start getting out of the house. Like getting a haircut. June will be two years since the last major cut and it looks ridiculous. Its warm weather and I'm tired of the scrunchy bun. This coming week I have an appointment first thing in the morning. Its a one man shop, so I am hoping that limits exposure to customers. I use to pop in and say hello since June 2020 appointment, but all the 'men' were mask-less except the barber. So I limited that contact.
I have an invite to a small wedding in June, so that is the reason behind a quick clothes shopping trip and the haircut. Local dept store was not crowded on a weekday just before lunch. Got some excellent pointers on what I was looking for and the nice ladies were all masked up :)
I do go to the library. Some wear masks, some don't. They still have their plastic shields. Contact is minimal. I use to go weekly for my mom and myself. Her passing and Covid have stretched out that socialization opportunity.
Hopefully the trip you and Art have planned is still on schedule and all goes smoothly.

Glad you got boosted Kay! Best to suffer the light symptoms than the symptoms of covid. I'd guess 75% of people around KC are not wearing masks, at the stores or QuikTrip. I and the remaining smart ones are still masking. The continuation of variants is scary. It's worth avoiding, just to not experience the "long-haul" symptoms which can really be devastating to your life plans. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThis is Kay of Musings: Hi Linda! I really am so grateful to get the booster before our trip. I know it won’t prevent me from contracting the virus which is why I’m always wearing a mask when we go into any indoor space. However, I know it will help to prevent me from ending up in the hospital. I know someone with long haul and it is a terrible thing. He was a nurse and had to quit because of the symptoms. It’s still spooky out there.
DeleteWe’ve got another week to go.
ReplyDeleteI was going to wait until August, to get me through the winter, but my doctor told me to go ahead and do it now.
ReplyDeleteWe got our 2nd booster on Friday. Today, Saturday, we are both fine. Of course, that's been the case with all of the COVID shots and flu shots, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to book my first booster.
ReplyDeleteSounds wise that you got that 2nd booster since you'll be traveling. I don't anticipate having a lot of exposure to others so may wait for another booster 'til later, possibly fall, but I'll see.
