Deteriorating Rubber Laces

Oh doggone it!

I wrote a post about those rubber laces that my daughter introduced me too.  https://travelerswife.blogspot.com/2020/04/no-tie-shoe-laces.html?m=1

I changed several of my sneakers to rubber laces so I wouldn't have to tie them all the time.

Would you believe one of them broke?!? Aggravation!

I had to hunt all over the house for a spare pair of shoe laces.

It must be the Hawaiian salt air that somehow deteriorates everything.

Hmmm...

Is that what's causing all the wrinkles?

Whatever the case, I hope the other rubber shoe laces on my other shoes don't break because I don't have anymore spare shoe laces! 🙄

  1. Rubber shoe laces? I've never heard of them but I suspect I will be searching for them online momentarily.

    1. Kay of Musings: My daughter has had them longer than me (in Illinois) and they’re perfectly fine.

    2. I haven't heard of rubber shoe laces either. Of course, I have to wear Clarks that just slip on. I have a failed bunion surgery so I can't wear just any shoe.

  2. I know that rubber shoelaces would not be a lasting solution in Florida with the heat and salt air.

  3. There is a price to be paid for living in Paradise! Kay, I hope you learned your lesson! Okay, I'm just kidding but this is weird how your air deteriorates rubbers and plastics. I have plastic shopping bags in my closet here in Pittsburgh that must be 20 years old!

    1. Kay of Musings: Plastic bags we keep stuff in for storage deteriorate in just a few years. I just tossed out some reusable bags a week ago because they’d turned to dust and came apart. 😣

    2. Kay. I know and I'm sorry. A year or so ago I wrote about storing plastic grocery bags to use as my kitchen trash bags, and Gigi Hawaii commented you can't keep them because they break down. It struck me as odd, as I have grocery bags packed away dating back to the early 2000s.

  4. Odd socks are trendy, so maybe odd shoelaces too. 😀

  5. It must be the salt air. I never heard of rubber shoe laces before, though!

  6. Those are the same shoes? They look so different with different laces.

  8. Same here. Never heard of rubber shoe laces. But I will say that when we lived in Florida (first 2 years of our marriage)... things either rusted or molded due to the salt air I believe.

  10. Rubber shoe laces, wow. Thinking about this, I would have no idea where to buy new shoelaces. Grocery store?

  12. Our sun is more intense - if I leave my Crocs outside, they shrink and curl up so I always have to buy a bigger size.

  13. Well, I've never heard of rubber shoe laces. But then I don't go shopping.

  14. Haven't heard of those. But I do have elastic stretchy shoe laces that come on Propet Traveler II shoes. I found a kit with some online and use them. They're covered in material, so I don't know if that would protect them from the Hawaiian air. I knew the sea salt air would rust things quickly, but didn't know about rubber. I bet good tires get that cracking pattern on their sides before the tread wears out if they have to be parked in the sun. A shoe repair place and WalMart and CVS has shoe laces. You gotta know how long you want them. Linda in Kansas

    All the best Jan
