I learn things from my blogging family all the time. However, I just wanted to mention two things that Arkansas Patti suggested that made a very helpful difference for me and people I've told. In fact, I wrote a post in 2017 about a post that Patti of The New Sixty wrote. It was called Poop Post. You should read her post because I found it really helpful. It's all about blowing if you're feeling sort of constipated.
I have to tell you that at night, if I wake and need to use the bathroom I get myself to the toilet but my body is still asleep so it's hard to get down to business to pee. If I blow, wow! It works and I can get it over with and get back to sleep.I did tell my mom about this trick a while back. I was therefore surprised when I accompanied mom to the bathroom at the ER last year to watch over her while she emptied her bladder and she blew to get it started. Ahhh... So she was now using Patti's trick too!
OK... So that was good.
But now Patti recommended ginger tea for flatulence (gas 😆).Well, OK... I admit it. Is this another aging thing? I get very bloated and my tummy looks like a balloon in the evening.
So when I saw that Patti said ginger tea worked for her, we went to get some.
I tried the Yogi ginger tea first but discovered that it's not all ginger. It has Lemongrass, Licorice, Peppermint and Black Pepper. Since I can't taste much, I couldn't tell the difference anyway.
Art then found this Traditional Medicinals Organic Ginger tea at the Down to Earth health food store and I could detect the bite.
So I've been drinking ginger tea at dinner and you know what? I think it's making a difference. No kidding.
I don't get gas pains lately. And yes, Art has noticed and is starting to drink some too.
I just love how we can all learn from each other.
Thank you, Arkansas Patti!
POSTSCRIPT:
I wrote this post a while back and scheduled it to go up later. I decided to post it today in hopes Patti would be back with us. Patti has not posted for a couple of months now and is fighting leukemia. I’m very worried and hoping she will be back soon to tell us she is recovered and doing well.

Thanks for sharing Kay, interesting idea, I did stop by to see Patti's post, I wish her the best.
ReplyDeleteWell, I did go off to read that post, just to see what kid of blowing it was.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning. My first comment. I wanted to add to your arsenal of teas for gas. Fennel seed tea. One heaping teaspoon of fennel seed in a teaball or strainer. Place that in your mug full of hot water. I like fennel seed because it relieves both stomach and intestinal gas. Chamomile is also good. Not as good as the ginger or fennel . Fennel seed tea saw me through the worst of the gas and bloating after a colonoscopy.

Kay of Musings: Hello Diane, it’s wonderful to meet you. I always appreciate advice anyone can offer. I shall have to look into fennel tea.
DeleteI miss Patti's posts and hope she's doing OK. Great advice! I don't do tea but find that certain foods and drinks make me bloated. I stay away from anything carbonated and the cabbage family.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm addicted to Constant Comment tea (black tea with a hint of orange and spice,) I tend to stick with that for the warmth of tea, or even as a cold drink. I went to an RN continuing education class about supplements and learned that ginger root, 550mg capsules (I use Spring Valley from WalMart for $4.88 for 100 capsules,) can be used like an NSAID if you can't take them for pain, it sooths the GI tract, protects the gastro system, is an anti-inflammatory, and anti-nausea. I don't take it daily, but I have to remember it's an option since I can't take NSAIDs = ibuprofen or naproxen. Haven't needed to try the blowing to start a stream, but for some hospital patients, the sound of running the water from the sink, or getting a basin and sloshing water over your hand works many times. After some sedation procedures, or urinary catheter removal, some patients can't go home until they've gotten their urine stream awake and working again. The simple things in life become pretty important, eh? Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI have the going problem, especially after surgery. I'll try the blowing technique. Sure hope Patti is coming back to us.
ReplyDeleteI'm familiar with the blowing (or exhaling through your mouth). However, I've never cared for Ginger. But I've never tried ginger tea... have used peppermint tea for soothing the stomach. And I too hope Arkansas Patti is doing OK.
ReplyDeleteI love Patti's posts and can't wait for her return. In the meantime, you might also try Physician's Choice 60 Billion Probiotics (I get mine off Amazon). Been taking one daily for a couple months (it's specifically for gut health) and I believe it's been 'normalizing' me...
ReplyDeleteLin Floyd says thanks, good advice and useful...
ReplyDeleteI love anything ginger but don't have much flatulence problems these days. In the past, though... I love what we learn from each other and hope that Patti is doing okay. I miss her, too.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I hardly ever eat out due to his gluten free diet. (He has celiac disease.) The night before our son's wedding, we did eat out and at an Italian restaurant where I had the most wonderful capers on my food! Now, the next day (which was the day of the wedding, of course!), my middle was so swollen, I could hardly zip up my dress!! YIKES! Hey, I didn't care, just sucked it in and away I went! LOL!! I have now read that capers are VERY salty, so maybe anybody else out there reading this...no capers before a big event, trust me! Now...off to read Patti's post!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your friend.
ReplyDeleteMuch benefits in all sorts of tea! I hope Patti is well.
ReplyDeleteI love all of those ingredients in tea and have a local brand here. Love it. I also like to make my own with ground spices and lemon, sometimes orange and then sometimes I'll add cinnamon too. I love all these stuff. Not for bloating, just for regular drinking. Though if Hubby is having tummy troubles I will offer him some as well. Happy Drinking! Cheers, Ivy. PS: I enjoyed catching up on your posts today! You have lots of fun stuff going on.
