OK... Here goes one last post for a bit. I just thought it was important for everyone to know.
I just tested mom and me twice with test kits that we got almost at the start of the pandemic. I'd been saving the QuickVue At-Home OTC COVID-19 Test Kits because it had a 2023-06-10 Expiration Date. I figured I'd better use it because it's only been expired for about 2 months. It did work. We tested the day after exposure to Art.
I tested again on Saturday with kits that weren't expired and mom and I were both 😅 negative again.
Art was still positive even though he's been on Paxlovid for 2 days now.
I was then concerned about our other test kits and remembered that my friend had told me there was an FDA website that listed extension dates for COVID test kits.

I looked at our kits and see the extension dates for the FlowFlex kits, but there was none for the QuickVue kits that had the 2023-06-10 dates. Darn!
I looked on Amazon to see how much these COVID test kits were running and found this.
Therefore, before you throw away any of your valuable kits, please check this FDA website. As we have learned, you never know when you'll need them.
For those of you in Canada or elsewhere, I hope your government is providing some of this information.
Stay safe everybody! It's still out there. (Art says no one wore masks on the airplane except them.) Sigh... it still didn't protect Art though. Our friend, Dave who traveled with him on this adventure is negative, thank goodness!
Thanks, Kay. Just checked ours that expired Feb 2023 but have been extended to 2024. I think we'll take a set along when we travel to Spain next month for two weeks. Take care of yourself. Hope Art feels better.

I had no idea covid tests expired.
ReplyDeleteWe get our drugs at CVS and each time we are there we are asked if we want COVID tests as they are free with medicare. Terry took a couple a few months ago as it seems COVID will be around for ever and we may be exposed or be sick enough to test.
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: If you have Medicare Part A & B, it was covered until May 12, 2023. I don’t know about Part D. I wonder why there’s no Part C… or is there?
DeletePart C is the letter for those "Advantage" plans that are usually horrid. "Supplements" cover most anything approved by Medicare that is a co-pay, deductible, etc. I feel that Advantage plans take advantage of people. Linda in Kansas

I was keeping one or two on hand, then had to watch the expire dates. 4 of the free ones that the government mailed were only good for a couple of months! Our's cost $12 to $24 at CVS, Sam's etc. Have a nice break from bloggy land so you and Art can rest! Linda in Kansas

ReplyDeleteI hope Art recovers soon. What a pain. Our kids came back from Singapore, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. They masked on the plane, for sure. Our provincial government is up to no good. It is disconcerting.

I am still leery going to crowded places and avoid as much as possible, which is no big deal as I avoided crowds even before all this happened. Thank you for this very important information Kay. I am definitely taking note and will tell my family. I am always being told that I am overly cautious but you just can't take anything for granted these days.
