I was chagrined to see that the zipper on my Hedgren backpack had broken.
"I'd bought it in Wisconsin's Outlet Mall in Kenosha at a Samsonite store. They were selling it for $20.00 + $1.00 for a second bag. I just couldn't pass it up. Two bags for $21.00? Wow!"
Wow! That lovely gray color really changed, didn't it?
Luckily, the backpack had gone on sale on Amazon for $88 in 2019 so I bought one to be ready for the time when this spare backpack would have to go to backpack heaven. The price had gone up astronomically, but I had gotten really used to this backpack and I'm a creature of habit.
So here I am 11 years later and switching over again to a new one, but I wasn't totally happy about the fact that there was now no side pocket for me to put my keys.
On the other hand there were now two pockets on the inside with one zippered pocket that was RFID protected.
OK...
And now there were two zippers to close the back flap which was convenient.
So I made the switch.
I moved my folding bags and hanging sanitizer bottle to the new one and I will retire this other tired bag.
I wonder if I should keep an eye out for a sale on these bags, just in case. 😁
I need to switch to a new backpack. Ihave several, but they are not really useful. I need to get more organized for the few trips in my future.

ReplyDeleteI use one of my daughter's old school backpacks. It's getting very ratty but I know its ins and outs and where the pockets are. Love the look of yours and if I start traveling again might invest in one!

ReplyDeleteI had a backpack I was very attached to. I had to part with it and with backpacks in general as I started to suspect it's causing me palpitations. I was right, as they never occured again afterwards.
ReplyDeleteMy girlfriends like using backpacks instead of purses. I like my shoulder purse. My hesitation about using backpacks is that someone can come from behind and slice it open. Of course, it never happened to them but I still hold onto that fear.

ReplyDeleteI have a stack of bags/purses but now I use the smallest one I have. I like to go light when I can.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was incredibly picky about her purses (the '60s version of a backpack), bought pretty good ones and kept them a long time. When finally one would give up the ghost the ordeal of the search for a new one began; it always seemed that she wanted one exactly like the one that just worn out (which when it was purchased was disliked for not being exactly like the predecessor, and so on back into time). She would never shop for a new one until the old one was unusable, My dad always suggested that she buy 2 once she found one that was acceptable so that when the first one broke she could just swap in its twin. I don't think that ever happened.

ReplyDeleteLook at L.L.Bean's online catalog. I LOVE them and they're SO durable. We still have my son's kindergarten backpack which is 30 years old! And I LOVE the Big Skinny wallet that you suggested. Not sure how I survived so many years with a regular leather billfold. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI suppose this is another thing lost to time but back in the day, my mom would have bought another zipper, unstitched that one from the bag and sewed in a new zipper. I had many of them replaced as a kid by her.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a spare! Backpacks are great for traveling. I used to have one, but haven't traveled in a long time, so haven't had one in ages. My over the shoulder purse works for daily use.
