I saw this comics in the Star Advertiser and had to 🙄 roll my eyes. It's so true isn't it?
Now... for some happy news.
Whenever we've flown to Maui and visited Lahaina, we've always stopped at the Banyan tree. It's one of Maui's most famous sites. And it's the largest banyan in the US, planted on April 24, 1873 which makes it 150 years old.
It's so huge that I could never get a photo of the entire tree.
So after the horror of the Lahaina fires and the lives and famous town lost, we did wonder about the tree.
This is how it looked after the fires.
Seeing this article gave us a glimmer of hope. Could it be that Lahaina could come back again? Would local people and businesses come back again?
I hope so.
I’m still hoping for a miracle and the former president is not able to run for office but I won’t hold my breath. That is great news about the tree.

ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, the whole Trump saga is hopeless.
Living in Georgia, the frontrunner has its supporters. The bad part is how their tactic is to be rude to you for having another opinion. It is depressing. The Banyon tree surviving is something to rejoice. The fire was harrowing to watch on television. I've actually been to Lahaina twice. I remember buying swimsuits in Lahaina for much less than they would have been in the mainland. The city will rebuild. I just pray for ordinary folks to get their fair share of the city and water. I remember that side of the island was the dry side.
ReplyDeleteYou can imagine how a little old boy from the Canadian prairie would be impressed with the banyan tree. It's one of the things I remember about Maui.
ReplyDeleteThe amazing/horrifying thing is that there are people who would vote for such a person - the first time was bad enough, but now that the true colors can be seen......a sign of the decline of public education, perhaps? Good news about the tree, all signs of rebirth and renewal are hopeful!

ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad they did all that extra work to help the Banyan tree. (Not so important, but I'm wondering how those benches around the tree survived the fire. Even if they were made of concrete, you'd think they'd crack. ) I'm stunned at how many people still like 45. It's just too close to the cult before WW2. Linda in Kansas

DeleteThat is wonderful news about the Banyan tree. I remember seeing it when we visited many years ago. Nature is truly amazing. As for politics, my mind is continuously boggled.

I am not worried about 45, I have too much faith in the intelligence of the American people and also I read that many of the polls have been paid by the Republican Party. Don’t worry, the race might be close, but he won’t win.
