Tuesday, May 14th was a busy day.
Tif's family likes corned beef hash patties.
Ed introduced us to Jackson's Sweet Potato Chips which they buy at Costco. We figured they didn't have it here in Hawaii. Would you believe we brought home three big bags of these sweet potato chips? 😂

We were planning to visit with some special friends the following day. Jim has been having chemo therapy and was immunocompromised so we made sure to take a COVID test twice before visiting with them the following day..jpg)

We were planning to visit with some special friends the following day. Jim has been having chemo therapy and was immunocompromised so we made sure to take a COVID test twice before visiting with them the following day.

It was wonderful to see these special friends again. We hadn't seen them since before the pandemic.
Art had met them in 1974 when he worked at EPA in Chicago and they became our lifelong friends..jpg)

And later that night, Art took another photo of my rose on his iPhone using the Portrait feature.
Since we all had January wedding anniversaries, it became tradition for us to go to a restaurant and then see a movie together.
Later, we ended up taking turns hosting each other to an anniversary dinner at each other's homes. We'd celebrated our anniversaries together for almost 30 years until we left for Hawaii!
These two special couples attended so many of our kids' activities, helped us with the renovation of our Illinois home and supported us in a million other ways.

Good grief! After all the trouble we went through to bring home those 3 big bags of sweet potato chips.... sigh...
We went to Costco here in Hawaii and saw this. 🙄
We paid $5.89 in Illinois vs. the $5.99 in Hawaii. On the other hand, we have 4.712% tax in Hawaii.
Illinois tax is 12%. 😲
Maybe Tiffany would like to bring some home in her luggage next time they're in Hawaii. 😂
Those chips seem to be almost as big a hit as your patties.

ReplyDeleteI had a large cardboard box to put them in and a lot of room in my suitcase since I never bring clothing to visit my daughter. We just bring a lot of Hawaii style gifts that we know she wants. So going home, my suitcase is usually empty.

ReplyDeleteI had never had corned beef until I married my wife. In her culture, it is a quick meal but they only sauté the corned beef with onions and serve that with steamed rice. Adding potatoes or battering and frying again don't occur.
ReplyDeleteOh that's so funny about the chips. I just played that game in a small way with Aldi. My daughter lives in a big city and her store has more products and gets new products earlier. I bought some chicken skewers up there. The kids loved them and I stopped on my way home. Two weeks later they were in my store priced $1 a pack cheaper.

ReplyDeleteI always have lots of space going home because just about everything we need is already in Tiffany's storage space. I just bring stuff like mochi, pineapple gummies, Diamond cookies and other Hawaii type stuff that fills up my suitcase, not to mention chocolate covered macnut candies for friends. So going home, my suitcase has lots of space.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful how some friendships can continue on in spite of distance? I like the look of that cake (chocolate) and would definitely try the chips although I'm more of a Nacho cheese Doritos fan. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, labour labour-intensive for sure. But I find that the best food often is. Cheescake? Stirfry (all that chopping!)? Hmm. Must buy chips. Compulsive chip chomper here.
