Here I am. Back again in Hawaii. It's taken me quite a bit of time to get over the jet lag malaise that hit me on our return. My pilot cousin told me to expect 1 day of recuperation for every hour of time zone separation. It's 5 hours between Hawaii and Illinois. It took a bit more than 5 days to get back to normal. It didn't affect Art much at all.
Anyway, as I said... here I am. I'll be recording our stay on the mainland here just because my memory is failing and this is my way to remember what happened.
Lately, it seems that every time we're about to leave home for a trip... something happens.Last year, when we were leaving for Tokyo to meet our daughter, son and their families for the first time since the pandemic started, mom fell on her head.
Thank goodness my brother was able to handle the ER visit and keep us updated.
This time, my brother ended up with double vision and couldn't drive us to the airport. (He and my sister-in-law were taking over mom's care while we were gone.) I planned on Uber, but our wonderful friend, Dave jumped in and volunteered to drive us instead. We did the United on-line check in again which was very convenient and the Bag Drop Shortcut was great too!
It was fun to see Diamond Head from the air. This isn't a view you often see of Diamond Head. I got this information from Wikipedia:
Diamond Head is a volcanic tuff cone on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu. It is known to Hawaiians as Lēʻahi, which is most likely derived from lae (browridge, promontory) plus ʻahi (tuna) because the shape of the ridgeline resembles the shape of a tuna's dorsal fin. Its English name was given by British sailors in the 19th century, who named it for the calcite crystals on the adjacent beach.
We left the island of Oahu with clear, sunny skies and very warm temperatures.
And arrived at O'Hare airport (on time 😄) to rain and cold. But it was lovely to be back. The welcoming banner with a photo of the Chicago River made us smile.
Tiffany came to pick us up and take us home through the pouring rain.
And me? I was now cold! I'd forgotten how changeable Midwest spring weather can be. Granted Tif was not cold. It took a while for Art and me to get acclimated to the cooler temperatures.
But gosh... It was sure nice to be back again.

I look forward to reading more in the coming days.
ReplyDeleteYour blog, like mine, is a wonderful journal of life.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize the changing temperature from the Islands to Chicago is such a shock to the body. I see many hispanic workers in Kansas who are wearing long sleeves and hoodies when we locals are in our short sleeves. Glad you made it toTiffany's warm blankie! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteYour rough return to your time zone scares me a bit for our upcoming trip to Switzerland. We managed I think last September returning from Spain but maybe not as quickly as when we were a lot younger. Nice to see you wrapped in the blanket with your daughter.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see you home safe and to hear that your visit was good. Looking forward to hearing more. Like that pic of you in the blanket too!
ReplyDeleteHi Kay! I love the picture of you and Tiffany! And so cool to see Diamond Head!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm going Down Under to see Naomi next month.
Kay of Musings: Hi Dina! It’s so wonderful to hear from you! I’m so glad you’re going to see Naomi. I was nervous knowing you were staying in Israel. It really doesn’t sound safe there. The situation is so volatile right now.
DeleteAw. That must have been lovely to see them.
ReplyDeleteBrain fade, I am glad you are feeling better!
DeleteGlad you are back and reporting on your trip to us! So far, even with little glitches and junkie weather, it is great to be wherever you are.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home! Glad you enjoyed your lovely trip!
ReplyDeleteI dunno how y'all drive through snow up there with black ice and all. When I went to the mainland the thought of driving there, regardless of how light traffic maybe, scared the bejesus out of me. BB
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about black ice. I slid on that once and probably sprouted early white hairs.
DeleteLooks like your daughter took good care of you. Your smiles are joyous.
ReplyDeleteExpect the unexpected? I'm glad you're recovered and had such a wonderful time. I'm used to cooler weather so I didn't enjoy the heat/humidity in Texas. I do love the climate of Hawaii though where there is often a breeze.
ReplyDeleteThe trade winds really help to cool things down when it's blowing. Could you tell me who you are please?
DeleteThat was me posting above. Normally I'm already logged in so I don't know why I was Anon this time.
ReplyDeleteHaha, love that photo of you all wrapped up in that blanket with great LOVE!! Please, let your Mom know that her many fans from your blog are thinking of her! Love that photo of DIamond Head from your airplane!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a busy time keeping in touch with home and enjoying the destination.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea to journal your trip here!
ReplyDeleteThat sort of temperature change would leave me shivering, too.
ReplyDeleteSo delightful to be in your old home of so many years with your Tiffany! Yes, we were in the Bay area for almost 4 years and never got used to the cold temperatures! Gratefully, we have been home in Honolulu, 5 years and 3 days!
ReplyDeleteNo I'm not counting, but we arrived home here on the last day of May so it's a family holiday every year. Aloha Kay warm up!
I am also glad you are back home, and love that picture of you and Tiffany so much. Wrapped in love and blankets.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to visit your children and see your girl dance!
ReplyDeleteThank you, but could you tell me who you are. Just a first name will do.
DeleteWelcome home, pleased you are back safely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely picture of you and Tiffany.
All the best Jan
