It's always awfully sad to say goodbye. And this was no different. Tif drove us to O'Hare Airport.
Believe it or not, the United flight left on time and arrived in Hawaii 10 minutes early!
I watched 3 movies:
The Beekeeper was very violent but Art said I'd probably enjoy it. Yup it was satisfying since the hero is after scammers who target seniors.I didn't expect much with 27 Dresses, but I rather enjoyed that too. They all helped to pass the time.
Back in Hawaii. Here's Art enjoying the Star Advertiser newspaper on his early Father's Day tablet from Ed, Tif and KC.
And then the happy surprise for my blog.
KC sent a video of the liquid nitrogen experiment in her chemistry class. KC had asked a friend to video record the fun.
I could hear her teacher saying, "Let's do KC's grandma's rose first."
Here's the rose being swirled into the liquid nitrogen and then coming out totally frozen.
The teacher had KC wear a glove before crushing the rose.
And so... after living a life of beauty for a week and a half, the beautiful rose gave its life to science. And since the rose was given to me by my teacher friend, how appropriate that the rose was furthering the pursuit of education.
Thus our trip to Illinois ended with memories to sustain us until we can be together again.
Full circle with the rose! Thanks for sharing that.
ReplyDeleteIt's always bittersweet to return home after visiting our loved ones. On my last trip I saw The Beekeeper on my flight as well. I really enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful memories, as always. That was a long flight!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of the "crushing the rose" experiment! Nice gift to education. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteA rosy end to your trip.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special act. The rose lives.
ReplyDeleteThe rose story is very special. KC will remember you, the rose, and the experiment her entire life and will one day tell her grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteIt is always sad saying good-bye to your kids & grandkids…..we too returned home to India from our kids in the US last week. Saying good-bye at the airport is always tough 😢😢 We had a long trip this time. Spent 10 lovely days in Japan watching the Sakura there….and each time we saw the beautiful flowers I thought of your Mom and her love for flowers…and Japan. And then we flew Hawaiian Airlines from Kyoto to San Francisco to our son. And again I thought of you in Hawaii. It was our first time on Hawaiian Airlines and the flights were comfortable and service excellent.
ReplyDeleteNo airport/airplane mishaps! That is a first for you in a long time. Glad you are home safe and have beautiful memories and a rose that carried on with such a dramatic conclusion.
ReplyDeleteA lovely and heartfelt post, Kay. We're so excited to go on the visits to loved ones that the ending is especially poignant. The rose experiment was very appropriate.
ReplyDeleteHow I love the life and adventures of that rose! Just as I enjoy yours, Kay! Lovely you had such a nice trip and that you are back home, safe and sound. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful trip! Kay! We really enjoyed riding along with you and feel almost as if we know your family and your Chicago Friends by this time. Aloha and welcome home greetings from townside!
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, we build memories on those family trips so that when we have to say goodbye we can cherish those memories. Loved the saga of the rose.
ReplyDeleteTen minutes early! That was some great tail wind. Thanks for sharing the rose experiment.
ReplyDeleteThose long flight can get very boring. Good that you found movies worth watching.
ReplyDeleteI love Jason Statham and watch every movie he stars in. I saw The Beekeeper and loved it. Lots of action.
