It was Sunday, May 19th! KC left early in the morning for the theater. Apparently there were 5 shows at different ability levels. KC would be in the 1st and last numbers of each show and in 6 numbers during the last show.
Since our show was at 6:00 PM, we decided to go to the woods to see if we could find more cicadas there.
Ummm.... not many. The weather was still not quite warm enough for the cicadas to emerge from the ground.
However, we found several near the asphalt bike/walking path. I think the warmth of the roadway was encouraging the cicadas to check out life above ground.
I then remembered how we had a lot of cicadas at our school in 2007. Our school custodian was kept busy sweeping them out of the basement. So that's where we went next.
It was fun to give KC the leis I'd made her. I wasn't the only one giving leis though. There was another family of friends from Hawaii with leis and other friends there who added to KC's fun.
A family friend had given KC these colorful dyed roses so I had to take a photo of it.
And yes, it was a wonderful, truly spectacular evening!

Danica did not continue with dance, but I loved the few recitals that we attended and still have some pictures on the wall.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to see KC dance
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to get to see KC perform!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see your granddaughter dance! And the cicadas! We don't have them here in VA this summer but they are always a trill when they do appear, I am fascinated by them. A lucky trip over all, congratulations.

The thing is my son and family are returning from overseas next month and we're going to have to go again.
DeleteHow wonderful to be there for KC!
ReplyDeleteDance recitals are magical! You traveled so far, so it was even more special. Those roses are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteAh, how wonderful for you, the proud grandma. You are all so blessed to have each other.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing some of your experiences - with bugs, and most especially, with your lovely granddaughter's dancing.
ReplyDeleteI worked front of house for many dance recitals. They ae interesting...like watching excited parents and grandparents. I was always impressed with the dancing.
ReplyDeleteKay, it's obvious you had a wonderful time visiting family. Thanks for sharing these memories.
ReplyDeleteWhat a graceful dancer your girl is!
ReplyDeleteWow! How beautiful! That's a lot of performances in one day! That's so funny that you went looking for cicadas. My outdoor dogs liked to catch them, and I had fun picking them up by gently pinching their back wing tips. they'd usually buzz some more. My Mom said in her poor town in the 1930s in Oklahoma that she'd make a necklace of the shells left on the trees. One time when we drove from Kansas City to a summer spot at Lake of the Ozarks, we thought our van had a ruptured water hose. We stopped and when getting out of the van, realized it was the LOUD noise of all of the cicadas. None seem to be in Kansas City this year. The boundary line of the invasion is toward St. Louis. Linda in quiet, hot Kansas
ReplyDeleteSo glad to got to be there with her when she had her performance. I think those cicadas would be terrifyingly loud!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day. Thank you for sharing it with us. Kay, aloha from townside
