I've had several friends and family ask if I was taking another blog hiatus. Oh gosh!
I totally forgot that I hadn't written how I had to step back from my blog again for a short while. It's been a crazy 2 months with the VERY taxing, aggravating, stressful bathroom renovation for my 95 year old mom and then our 2 week trip to see our daughter, son and their families in Illinois. Keola and family are only in the U.S. once a year because of their jobs overseas.
Therefore this was a very important, eagerly anticipated trip for us. It was a time for us all to finally, finally all be together again even if it could only be for one and a half week.
One thing I LOVED seeing was the bonding of the cousins. 17 year old KC has never been one to babysit little children. As an only child, she's not super comfortable with little kids. However, once our grandsons discovered that she seemed to know a LOT about the Minecraft video game (that she played when she was much younger), they considered her their hero, their video game guru. RK would often want to hold her hand when we were out walking and they both relied on her for computer help.
And we were proud of KC's gentle affection and patience for her young cousins who loved being in her company.
However, we returned to Hawaii to find mom's worsening memory difficulties and fixing up a few more problems with the bathroom/house renovation which we are taking care of ourselves.
Anyway... life is full of things we have to deal with and we are dealing with it.
I miss talking to you all, but will be back soon. Until then, I just wanted to send my love to you all.
Nice to get an update Kay! The reunion sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to Illinois! Be sure and check with docs and social workers for cares that can help with your Mom. It's okay to not do everything for her; you two deserve assistance too as you continue to help her. Hugz, Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI, for one, have missed your posts. Dementia waits for no one, and is a dreadful disease.
ReplyDeleteYa gotta do what ya gotta do.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering! I'm sorry about your mom's situation--so sad and stressful. The visit to Illinois sounds wonderful. Take care of yourself, Kay!
ReplyDeleteMissed your posts but I understand priorities. What a heartwarming description of the big and little cousins bonding. An unexpected gift.
ReplyDeleteHope Aunty continues to live her happiest life, and I know she will with you and Art’s tender care. Caregiving is one of the toughest jobs, another being cleaning up the mess you’ve already paid someone to fix. See you soon, Holly
It was such a joy to read about the cousins getting along. Your time there was a real respite for you.
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing about the bonding between KC and her younger cousins. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteLike Linda in Kansas said, get help with your mom when you need it, maybe before you think you need it. Living with stress all of the time will only bring you down and will not help her.
Thanks for your caring. You have to look after things in your home . It looks like things are changing quickly.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back and take your time! We'll be here.
ReplyDeleteSee you soon Kay…..just take each day as it comes. Love to your Mum and Art xx
ReplyDeleteAll the best.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your hiatus.
ReplyDeleteI just assumed you were still state-side, enjoying your family visit. Especially getting to see ALL the grandchildren at once. How special that must have been. I wondered, though, how your mother was doing, with your long absence from home. Guess it wasn't as long as I originally thought.
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since I have followed your blog and I have missed it. I am Margie from Margie's Musings.
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice catching up with you Kay. I enjoyed the photo of your grandchildren. It must have been such a delight to see them bonding. Wishing you all the very best right now.
ReplyDeleteJust take care and ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
So wonderful that you got to see your family. Yes, I am dealing with some family memory issues so I know how heartbreaking and unrelenting it can be. But I'm handling it as gently and simply as I can, so I appreciate where you're coming from. Aloha from townside dear Kay
