A Son's Gift to His Mom

I wrote a post about three years ago called Transplanting Orchids with Help From a Son. Mom kept telling me that her orchid plants needed to be repotted. Well... I wasn't sure how to do that so I told my brother that his mother wanted his help.

So of course, he came right over and began working on it.

He had to split apart the overgrown plants and repot them with hapuu (Hawaiian tree fern).

He did an excellent job and eventually they began flowering a little at a time.

And then the other morning, four of the plants started sending out shoots and flowering at the same time.

There was a little morning shower the other day and the orchids were startlingly beautiful. It makes us smile whenever we look at them and they bloom for such a long time.

Uuummm... I am noticing though that those orchid plants are now overgrown for their small pots and need to be repotted again. 😁

Just in case my brother is reading this...

Oh Dennis.... Mom needs you again.

POSTSCRIPT:

By the way, thank you for caring about me and my health worry these past few weeks. I've been to my doctor who said the liver ultrasound turned out normal and I don't have to worry about it anymore. The blood tests also showed improvement so I'm getting better. However... the stomach upset. Sigh... He says I'll have to get poop tested. He wasn't sure how it would be done. I'm not liking the sound of that.

  1. Back in the mists of time, I wrote a post about my first poop test. I titled it, Getting My Shit Together.

  2. My MIL is somewhat of an orchid whisperer. Potted orchids tend to be popular decorations at church for various events but as soon as they stop blooming, get tossed. The priests know this and let my MIL know when there are some about to go out and she will pick them up and bring them home just short of death judging by how they look. She repots them, waters them, talks to them and eventually they will live to bloom another day.

  5. You have a good brother who is able and willing to do that hard repotting work. The orchids are gorgeous. I am so envious. Flowers do not do well here. The soil is not very good for flowers and I find the cats play in the pots so much that the plants die. I need hale and hearty bushes. As for your health, so glad you are feeling better and the tests seem to prove it. As for the poop test, there is a new way that I just performed a couple of months ago. I think you will be pleased to know things are changing in that realm of medicine. Testing has improved.

  6. Lovely blooms. As to the poop test I don't think you'll find it too difficult. If it is you can write about it!

  9. I see beautiful orchids and am tempted to try to grow them... but haven't gotten brave enough yet. Always thought they were difficult and I certainly don't want to kill them. You have a good brother.

  11. Wonderful glorious orchids!
There is a fecal test where you smear poop and mail it in. First easy start. Maybe you have worms? Easy enough if it is. SO glad it isn't your liver.

  17. I am so sorry about your health! I often think that hubby's cancer is less worrisome than his back issues, and other issues.
