I don't normally post of Saturdays but I thought this Editorial cartoon in the Honolulu Star Advertiser was so perfect that I had to share it with you.
On the other hand...
Although I wasn't anywhere near in the mood to read anything about politics, Ed of Riverbend Journal posted about a website called Tangle. It's supposed to give you an UNbiased view of the news.
I read a bit of it and it is interesting. I'll read more when my stomach settles.

I’m using Comment Moderation for any post that is more than a day old because of aggravating SPAM. Therefore, if your comment does not go up on an older (more than a day old) post, it's because I need to OK it first. I'm sorry to have to do this, but again... sigh... it's the spam that's driving me crazy.
Finding unbiased news is a challenge and we are resistant to views we don't understand. There is usually a middle way.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing that cartoon when I was younger and wondering what it meant. Folks shouldn't be surprised who Trumpty is attempting to put in his cabinet; other than being unqualified, they have to have a history of some kind sexual assault. Love how Johnson doesn't want one such report out after a committee investigated. Read something like: when a clown becomes a king, the castle becomes a circus. Yep. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI don't feel like being unbiased right now bc it is over, and I made my mind up long ago. I have read reasons and rationale, and I am not soothed.

DeleteI like John's comment and am also tired of trying to be fair and unbiased. This is where it gets us. Several people have recommended Tangle to me but I'm not ready to read anything political at the moment.
ReplyDeleteUnlike John and Margaret, I think trying to be fair and unbiased in our judgement right now is exactly what we should be doing so that we can allow this political scarring to heal our electorate. Tangle may very well be biased, and I think Isaac calls our entire political spectrum right now slightly "left of center". What I find most appealing isn't the unbiasedness or perhaps unrecognized bias towards my way of thinking, but of his determination to use unloaded terminology when dissecting the toping at hand. All around me, I see loaded terminology used to gloss over/sanitize the implications of a stance or to demonize the other side and it serves no purpose other than to be divisive. I think if we could all go back to being more respectful of dissenting opinions, this world would be a much better place.
ReplyDeleteI know you're right, Ed. We have to somehow heal. But it isn't easy. Still... as I see who is being put in key positions of the government, it's hard to feel good.

But I am reassured that while they have been named by the president elect, the Senate will likely not confirm some of them due to the slim majority and many old school senators having concerns. Thune, the next majority leader, is one of those old school Republicans that isn't likely to bow to Trump under pressure. Note, Trump also didn't get his way last time either with all his appointments.
DeleteI'm not reading any news. I am "newsed out". Our brains are so damaged we are streaming 1960's and 70's mindless tv shows instead. I guess we will have to come out from out of the covers at some point.

ReplyDeleteNews should be unbiased and based on fact rather than opinion. Gone are the days of Walter Cronkite and reporting without slants. However, in this day and age of information overload, anybody who can put a sentence together can become an expert that people follow. It is why I don't watch the news and let others tell what is going on. I hear all the vitriol and feel sad how hate is spread.
ReplyDeleteHowever, that being said, I really did love watch Jon Stewart. And that other fellow who looked and acted Republican but would zing his guests.
The thing that bothers me about the news is that often they attempt to predict it rather than report it. So much time spent on 'what happens next?' I want to hear what's happening now. They can report future news when it happens.
