Fixing a Hole

After avoiding writing about our political situation for such a long time, I wrote a post for today about the leader of our country.

However, I mentioned it to our kids during a group video chat this weekend and they advised me not to put it online. “This is a crazy, scary time,” they said. “You don’t know what unhinged people can do to you.”

“But they can’t find me,” I said.

“Yes, they can,” they said.

Anyway… in the end, to appease their worries, I had to kill that post. Really? Is this what our country has come to?

Soooooo…. Here’s another post I’d written for a future date. (And we are in a Hellish hole right now, I think.)

Fixing a Hole

No, I'm not writing about the Beatles. Uuummm... Do you remember this song from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?

Actually I was just going to write about fixing a hole in my watering hose for the garden.

I think it started as a little dribble and then whoa! It was a gusher.

I told Art we needed to buy a new hose.

But... nope.

He said he could fix it. So he got duct tape and wrapped the hole as tight as he could.

But nope... it started leaking again right away.

"We need a new hose," I said.

Well... he looked online and then decided to drive down to City Mill and bought this kit.

And guess what. He did fix the hole after all.

And yes, he's smiling... or smirking? 😏

  1. Yep, your kids are correct. When ICE can pick up anybody for no reason at all, it's scary. Now retired, I can be a little more blunt with my viewpoints, but I always wonder, considering the way evil empires function. Nice fix on the hose. My stretchy one didn't cost that much, but some have connectors and ends that come off easily. Now you can attach a strong spraying nozzle at one end and blast any evil creatures that try to interfere with your life. Linda in Kansas

    1. I told the kids that my blog is set to Stop Search Engines from finding me. My son-in-law checked and yes, you can't find my blog through my name. BUT, my kids were still not satisfied. They feel that technology is such now that evil people can find you no matter what. So to keep them happy, I had to remove that post. What has our country come to?!?

And yes, the spraying wand I had broke too (Hawaiian salt and sun). So I have a new one that can be gentle or very strong. I dare a cockroach to come near me.

  2. Especially with political posts, I often ask myself what am I trying to accomplish it by writing it. If the answer it to point out the absurdity of one political view or the other or if it is to tell the world how my view is the only way one should feel, I just don't write it. People are not going to change their view because of something I am going to write. Like your kids said, it can only possibly inflame people. I only try to write views to enlighten a subject that I think few know such as my recent one on the scope of the national debt compared to France, I do my best to not use biased rhetoric at all costs and I am respectful in the labels I apply to opposing views or leaders. It has served me well.

I have fixed hoses before like Art did but usually end up buying a new one. The fixed spot will be heavy and tend to snag on everything as it gets dragged here and there in my yard.

  3. I guess, but our blogs are pretty obscure and only read by a few people in the whole wide world.

  4. My hubby had many of those fix the hose kits. In fact I think just about every hose has one of those in it. He was a fixer. Good job, Art!
Each winter I have 100 feet of hose I use to water the heated water tank, draining it is always the most fun part!

  5. Sadly, especially in your country, I think your children advised you well. What a state to be in, though.
Well done, Art, on the hose pipe adaptation. It's satisfying to mend something and keep it going.

  6. I rarely post about politics but would be easy to find, so I'm especially careful now. "Fixing a hole where the rain gets in" I do remember that Beatles song.

  7. I’m like you about our leader. Ugh. So depressing. About a month a go a local teacher reposted a comment when the person died. Yes, it was negative. I know two school board members and I said please don’t fire. But after a hearing he was fired. One of my friends resigned from the board. He was a great teacher.he will be hard to replace—science of some sort.he'd taught 18 years. I say the “good ole boys” all voted to fire. He was gay is the real reason I think. We live in a dangerous world today. Your kids gave you the right advice. Sad as it is.

Glad the hose is repaired I can’t fix anything.

  8. I think it was wise of you to stiffle the political post. 3 more years! Somehow time has really slowed down and usually it goes flying by. Good job, Art! I usually just buy a new hose.

  9. Kay, go and read Kay's Reading Life blog. Kay from Texas. I'm afraid it is sad news.

    1. Thank you, Kay. I just looked and saw that Nan from Letters From a Hill Farm has passed away. It's been such a long time since I've communicated with her on her blog. It's so sad to lose bloggers. But I guess we're of that age... sadly. Two of my friends just lost their siblings. And I've lost 4 very close friends in the last couple of years. It's hard.

  10. Kay, I'm surprised the duck tape didn't work. Seems like you can duct tape anything. But glad Art found a solution.

  11. I just posted about our dear leader on Facebook. I am still contemplating a political blog post. Evil happens when good people are silenced. I will not be silenced, even if my impact is small and my voice is barely heard.
I think Art just likes the satisfaction of fixing things. He does it well, saves money, and less dumped in the landfill.

  12. I am reading this on Monday night. The leader just posted a fake video of leaders of the opposing party with a voice-over of vulgar racist words seeming to come out of their mouths. He is mentally ill and that is terrifying.

    1. Kay of Musings: OMG! I just saw it. The leader of our country is stooping even lower than I could have imagined. Totally disgusting!

  13. My husband's family name is Gilmour. Laughing at the tag. I do feel for you but I think your kids are correct. You could get tagged and have future troubles. The situation is beyond scary, and on this side of the border we have a trade war designed to bring us to our economic knees so that we have to join the US of A. Not going to happen is my prayer lately.

  15. At least you do you live in a pretty blue Hawaii. I live in a very conservative red South Carolina, while some areas of it aren't that bad, the Reich Wingers here are very violent/harassing if you give them the opportunity

  16. What was the cost to repair vs the cost for replacement. I find that "sometimes" a man will spend as much on repairing something old just because they like to fix thing.

    1. Kay of Musings: As I recall, the hose repair kit was about $7, I think. A new 50 foot hose would have cost a lot more.

  17. Yes, it is what your country has come to. Also, 150 Canadians have had their trips curtailed, some for negative posts about Trump. Locked up, in appalling conditions. We will never visit the US again.
You are wise to be careful.
