In the last couple of months, we have been constantly inundated with charity requests from Christian groups. I've written to all of them asking them to not waste valuable resources by sending these mailings to us. We have our own charity causes that we contribute to. I've gotten some very kind replies from several of them and they promised to take our name off their list. But the religious mailings still come.
I've told them that we want to OPT OUT of their mailing list and to add us to their SUPPRESSION list so they don't sell our name or send us more mail if some other organization should give them our name. I've even told them we are Buddhist and asked for their help in taking us off some sort of Christian mailing list that must be in operation.

Wow! That's a lot of mail. You are on somebody's list! Does your Post Office have a suggestion on how to stop those? Your poor mail carrier must think you're running a convent and monastery out of your home! Hmmm. Hope you aren't getting the same amount of Republican mail. Linda in Kansas

DeleteWhat a list! I am stunned by how it kept going and going. For the most art, they don’t seem to bother us much anymore.

ReplyDeleteWe are the same, we have certain charities we support. So sorry.
We only give to local charities with smaller budgets that can’t sustain mailings like those. My MIL doesn’t make this distinction and thus she gets two or three of them daily, several you have listed above.

ReplyDeleteI don’t like stores asking if I want to give my change to dah dah dah. No, I say, you’d get the credit. The world is a rip off. Donald Trump is the biggest scammer of all!
I get a very few of those but not like what you are inundated with.

ReplyDeleteI've only heard of a couple of those, which makes me suspicious. I've been donating locally--to my city's food bank, to Fred Hutch Cancer Center, etc.
ReplyDeleteWow, they really want you to convert! Great idea about collecting those nickels and donating them to a good cause. I always felt guilty about receiving and not giving.
ReplyDeleteI get a lot of charity request letters addressed to my husband. The strange thing is he has been dead for 25 years and has NEVER lived at this address!
ReplyDeleteI get some of those same solicitations. They go straight into the recycling bin.
ReplyDeleteWe are also inundated with solicitations, mostly from hospitals and food banks. And all the usual Red Cross, etc. I have tried to slow them down by sending in a notice saying I will only give once a year, and if I get solicitations after I have given, I will take the sender off my list. Doesn't impede them, hardly at all. One response, a nice one, but we had seven mailings from them this fall so far. AArgh. You have my sympathy but I have no good ideas on stopping the flow.

ReplyDeleteWe had a terrible time after my father in law died some years ago and we had his mail transferred to us so that we could respond to cards from his friends who didn't know he was gone. He had mentioned getting lots of solicitations but it was amazing, lots of religious ones and also many from a political party he did not support, and some of those were really distasteful. They finally tapered off when there was no response but it took a long long time. I feel your frustration!

ReplyDeleteOver the years in someone local as in need of help we gave it we never sent money for charities which sounds bad, but we took care of those around us.
ReplyDeleteI get a more annoying junk mail. Post cards and letters telling me they will come and pay me cash for my house or they will buy a portion of my land for cash.
It goes in the burn pile.
Yes, this time of year what with the television adverts and the mail, charities inundate you with requests.

That is a lot. We too receive these from various charities, some send little notebooks and mailing labels and stickers and I feel why are you wasting money on all of this. I give to whom I want and I don't think a magnet will change my mind.
