This is what happened.
Art is the coffee maker in the family. He makes a full decanter of morning coffee every three days or so and saves the remainder in a glass decanter for me to use for my morning mocha (affogato) and his mug of black coffee.
Well... one morning, he discovered that our coffee maker would not turn on.
"Couldn't it be the outlet?" I asked.
"No," he said. "The Echo device is on so the wall outlet is working."
"But what if the multi outlet extender isn't working?" I pressed.
"No," he said.
"But....." I said.
And BINGO!
It turned on.
"Aha!" I said. "I was right!" 😁😀😄
And then... the light went out again and wouldn't turn on. 😳 He had coffee grains and water in there and it just wouldn't start to brew it.
Sigh...
So much for being right for once. I should know better. He was an electrical engineer.
He was really disappointed because he really liked that Betty Crocker coffee maker, but they don't make it anymore.
We had to buy another coffee maker and will be using it now.
Art says the coffee it brewed was fine.
Trouble is this has a lot more parts to clean than the Betty Crocker version.
Ah well... I hope this one lasts as long as the Betty Crocker one did. I think it was well over 20 years old.
How do you brew your coffee?
We have a single cup machine, but it’s not a K-cup. We just add as much grind as we like and either make a cup or a mug. This was we don’t waste all of those cartridges. I make 2 cups in the morning, and Sue makes 1 mug.

Kay of Musings: I make cold coffee affogato every morning with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Art warms the saved coffee and has it hot. 😄

ReplyDeleteWe have a Hamilton beach and it's very simple. Our daughter has a marvelous machine, that I only use it to decant my coffee as I have no idea how the coffee grounds are even put in the machine. She sets it up each night before she goes to bed so she has fresh coffee waiting for her when she gets up. Starting on Friday, Terry's first day in isolation, I will have to make my own coffee and I just use a pour-over filter in my mug. Terry will give up coffee for those few days and drink herbal tea.
ReplyDeleteI use a Black and Decker Cup at a time every morning. I put a paper filter in the basket, a spoonful of ground coffee, add a cup of water in the reservoir, close the lid, and push down on the lever to start. Super easy. The problem is when and if I have guest who want coffee, it takes so long to rinse and repeat. But then, I hardly have guests anymore.

My older daughter and husband have a Ninja and love it. I have a 30+ year old Krups with an espresso side and a drip coffee side and I LOVE it. I don't want a fancy new machine that will confuse me. Like Art, John is usually right about stuff too.
ReplyDeleteI zap water in my clear cup, then add a tea bag with a ceramic coaster over the top. I have a coffee maker if any guests stay who drink coffee. Linda in Kansas

ReplyDeleteWe have a Keurig and use the Dunkin Donuts Columbian coffee pods. But I have to admit that my favorite coffee machine was an old Cuisinart Grind and Brew.
ReplyDeleteMy one cup of coffee per day is a treat I look forward to. I only use low acid coffee, Lucy Jo's is organic and low acid and my tummy is not bothered by it. Hurray. I have a Keurig and stainless steel type Kcups so I can use them forever. Plus no plastic. I have a milk foamer and always add the foamed milk to my coffee. Enjoy your coffee friends.

ReplyDeleteI have a cheap Mr. Coffee. It works just fine and makes the coffee like I like it. That is one cool looking beast of a coffee maker!
ReplyDeleteNot a coffee drinker but Dan is and like AC above he has a single serving coffee maker. It grinds the beans he needs into reusable cup and he brews one cup from that. He had a multi cup brewer but would end up drinking too much coffee only because he had it. He offers guests the choice of decaf or caffeinated.

ReplyDeleteTom brews a pot of coffee every morning, using a coffee maker - not sure what brand. He drinks it in the morning. I have a mug full for lunch, and then the pot is turned off. Any coffee I have later in the day I reheat, with milk.

ReplyDeleteWe have a Keurig one so one cup at a time. We do have a pot one that we pull out if a lot of coffee drinkers stop by for some reason. I don't drink the stuff so I only use it for k-cups of cocoa in the winter time.
ReplyDeleteWe had a blender that stopped working many years ago. I finally diagnosed it as the switch on the blender so I drilled a hole in the body of the base and installed a toggle switch. We ended up using that blender for another ten years or so before I finally upgraded to another one.
My wife uses k cups and our machine is very simple. I don't drink coffee ☕

ReplyDeleteI like the simplest coffee maker. I hate too much to know. I have one that makes 4 cups. Cheap Walmart brand. It works fine for me.
