I've worn this same light jacket in Hawaii for ... I forget how long. Well, the other day I looked at it carefully and saw this.
I use this very light jacket all the time during cooler weather. Actually it was a longer jacket that probably ripped at the bottom so I just cut it off and sewed it up. Same for the sleeves. 😕 I know I've had this for decades. I bought it at Land's End in the Clearance section. You can tell by the ripped label.
No, don't feel sorry for me.
I've got lots of other little jackets. But the ripped one was just right.
Sigh... Do you have clothing that you wear even though it should be thrown away?

Goodness yes I do! Since I do all the work on a little farm, I have 30+ yr old coveralls with patches and holes in them, the insulation has deteriorated and the sleeves are partly shredded. But they are good enough to clean up manure in. I have sweatshirts that are so ragged but so comfy...and pants with holes in the knees. But I wear them anyway.
ReplyDeleteI just lost the zipper pull on a favourite sweater it broke off in the laundry. It is so warm and comfortable. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I have not one but TWO jackets. One is from Nordstrom which my friend got for me from at Thrift store! The other one is a zip up jacket she bought for me from Old Navy. The Old Navy one has developed tiny holes and I only wear it if I have a dark shirt underneath! The Nordstrom one, is a perfect windbreaker, good for cool days when you don't want something heavy. OH! And I have some Bill Blass shorts that I have had since about 1992. Oh! And two sweatshirts from when C. was a baby. (Late 1980's). Maybe things were better made then?
ReplyDeleteI need to keep downsizing my wardrobe, in the sense that my size has come down and too many clothes are too loose and baggy. It's not so bad on outerwear, but shirts and pants are a problem.
ReplyDeleteI love old clothes that feel just right. I have too many old clothes. If they feel good I want to keep them.
ReplyDeleteAll the time! I cannot find replacements that I like (or can afford).
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. It's difficult parting with favourite, comfortable clothing.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Around the house and in the garden everything I wear is old and shabby.
ReplyDeleteAt home I wear the same tshirt and denim shorts (I have several of each) and they are SO grubby and worn out. I change into better clothes but once in a great while I don't because it is a short trip to the grocery store or post office, and when I see people I know I try to hide. If they catch me, I apologize for being so boro (short for boro boro, which means rags).
ReplyDeleteYes, some of my clothing should definitely leave the house, including my lightweight jacket that I just realized has a faded left shoulder from the sun beating down on it through the window.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do. Especially pajamas that are softened by many washes, even when the elastic is gone and the pants need a drawstring. I bought two new pair last winter and am still into the old stuff. I guess I should demote it to cleaning rags.
ReplyDeleteI have way too much old clothing with rips and holes in them, but they fit and are comfortable. What to do? I hate shopping and new things are never the same. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYes to loving much of my aging clothing that fits so much better than most replacements.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have an old gray leather jacket that has many holes . I still wear it but only at homee.
ReplyDeleteHi Kay, I think you can rescue your cardigan with visible mending which is kind of a hip thing to do nowadays and was popular in the 70’s ( ?) as well. Just type visible mending into a search engine and you’ll see beautiful examples and ‘visible mending tutorials’ should give you ideas on how best to approach it for your application. It’s so popular that even books have been published on it. Maybe your grand daughter has tried it on her clothes. It’s a great way to keep clothes out of a landfill and from needing to purchase a new item, although needles and thread may set you back some.
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: Thank you so much for your advice, Rachael! I will look into this. Bloggers always have so many wonderful solutions. 🤩
DeleteI have old scrub tops marked with an "X" for chores and gardening. Just replaced my 26 year old nursing school hooded jacket with a new jacket with same features from Animal Rescue. Pawprints appear when it's wet! I wear one pair of jeans until it starts wearing out. I replaced my son's middle school oversized hooded jacket he wore at swim meets; he won't trash the old one with torn wrists and no elbows; says he's exiting the world with it! Sigh. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteYou could sew that seam back together, and use an iron-on patch on the inside to obscure the little hole. Yep! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: Mom is having a respiratory ailment now. The doctor told us yesterday that she has emphysema in her right lung. We had no idea. Apparently it was discovered during one of our emergency visits 3 years ago but we weren’t told. Once all this is over, I’ll work on my shirt. I can’t believe how MANY meds we were given by Kaiser.
DeleteMight need a lung doc / pulmonologist to help manage the emphysema. If she's on antibiotics, make sure she takes a PRObiotic capsule (WalMart or Sam's generic is fine.) It will diminish the chances that the antibiotic will cause diarrhea or cdiff. (Cdiff is in our intestines anyway, but the antibiotics rip out the good bacteria in our gut and let the cdiff multiply. A definite distinct odor emits from the bathroom.) Unless she likes a lot of Greek yogurt. Take the probiotic opposite the times she takes the antibiotic. Yep, you've got that nursing degree! Hugz, Linda B.
DeleteKay of Musings: Thanks so much, Linda. She’s not on antibiotics right now… just lots of meds for cough, congestion, and a nebulizer and sprays, etc. I can’t keep it all straight.
DeleteIf you were close, I can patch that up for you !!!
